FLOATING CITY SCULPTURE by Claire Halpin and Madeleine Hellier

Check out these visual art images:

FLOATING CITY SCULPTURE by Claire Halpin and Madeleine Hellier
visual art

Sculpture In Context 2012 at the National Botanic Gardens, Glasnevin, Dublin 9.
6th September to 19th October 2012

Sculpture in Context continues to build on 26 years of experience in organising successful exhibitions. It has, over the years staged highly acclaimed visual arts events at venues such as Fernhill Gardens, the Conrad Hotel, Kilmainham Gaol, the Irish Management Institute, Dublin Castle, Farmleigh House and the National Botanic Gardens.

The gardens are not only a botanical haven, and a quiet oasis on the outskirts of a modern European City, they also offer a challenging venue which gives the artist the rare opportunity of realising large scale work. It also gives the visitor an opportunity to ramble and explore, sometimes finding sculptures in the most unusual places. The sculptures are displayed throughout the gardens, ponds, Great Palm House, and Curvilinear Range, with the smaller works exhibited in the gallery above the visitors’ centre.

Environmental Portraits: Weekly Photography Challenge

15 Dec

This week your photographic challenge is to take an ‘Environmental Portrait’ (or a portrait that is as much about the surrounds of your subject as it is the subject themselves).

Untitled

The idea came from my post last week – ‘How to Create Portraits that Captivate and Intrigue‘ where I explored the idea of portraits often becoming more interesting when you pay a lot of attention to the background (and foreground) of your portraits and place your subject within an environment that adds to the image.

You might also like to take a look at my previous Introduction to Environmental Portraits tutorial.

"I Am..." An Engineer

The key is to take a great portrait – but instead of going for a background that is not distracting or blurred it out or zooming in to remove it – put that subject in a setting which tells something about your subject.

Perhaps you’d like to photograph someone at work, or a child in their bedroom, or someone in a sporting dressing room preparing for a game…. really it is totally up to you!

Proud X in his bedroom

Once you’ve taken and selected the ‘Environmental Portrait’ image/s that you’d like to share – upload them to your favourite photo sharing site or blog and either share a link to it or – embed them in the comments using our embed tool to do so.

Ricky's world

If you tag your photos on Flickr, Instagram, Twitter or other sites with Tagging tag them as #DPSENVIRONMENTALPORTRAIT to help others find them. Linking back to this page might also help others know what you’re doing so that they can share in the fun.

Also – don’t forget to check out some of the great shots posted in last weeks challenge – 1 Subject 3 Shots challenge where there were some great shots submitted.

Noell Oszvalds Traum vom Fliegen

15 Dec

Battery Grip Installation for Nikon D40 (LinkDelightOz)

15 Dec

Follow Me: www.flickr.com.au ~~~~~ Hi everyone! This is my first video, and a look at a 3rd party battery grip for the Nikon D40/x. The one in the video was purchased from Ebay seller LinkDelightOz for around AUD, which I felt was an excellent price for the product. You can usually also add a few extra dollars and they will send you an extra battery, which I didn’t do because I prefer genuine Nikon batteries, and you can also get a battery grip with an LCD screen if you want to pay twice as much. I would’ve taken that option if I had the money. Hope you enjoy the vid! Matt (and his Nikon, of course!) PS Search “Nikon D40 Battery Grip” On Ebay and you should find the seller, amongst many others. There is a new model grip out and I’ve no idea what it’s like.

Trash Chaos Vessal –“What Lies Within” 04
visual art

This series of art is a commentary about society: our over stimulating culture, bombardment of visual "noise" and attention deficits, as well as being graphic, eye catching conversation pieces made from trash usually thrown out in the garbage.
"What Lies Within" measures 4.5" wide by 3 " wide, and 2.75" deep.
