Ricoh has announced it will update the firmware of its GRD III enthusiast compact camera. The update, due in mid October, is the fifth feature-adding revision for the high-end model and includes several additional features that have come from its GXR and GRD IV cameras. These include the ability to assign an additional option to the ‘Adj.’ lever and the locking of the power button if the optional new GL-1 metal lens cap is fitted. The company says this will be the final update for the GRD III.

Hidden Lake, Glacier National Park
Glacier National Park suffers from no shortage of iconic vistas and formations. Hidden Lake lookout, above Logan Pass, is a place you can lose yourself taking in the iconic vistas and mountain peaks. Even the locals (Mountain Goats, Marmots and Bighorn Sheep) seem to stop to enjoy the views from time to time. They also seem to enjoy watching visiting photographers as I found out. The Mountain Goats (photos to come) might just surprise you by being right behind you and Marmots aren’t too shy about inspecting your gear. In fact on a previous trip to Glacier National Park a Marmot tried to take off with my tripod. Now that I think about it perhaps the locals here are closet photographers when no one is around
Special thanks to BorrowLenses.com as both of these photos were made using their Zeiss Distagon T* 3.5/18mm ZE and Canon 300mm f/2.8L IS USM lenses.

Bjorn Stopped By the House on the Way Home…

I first met photographer / retoucher Bjorn Holland in London a few years ago, just before he was to head out on a little motorcycle ride. Eighty thousand miles later, he stopped by my house for a visit on the last leg of his round-the-world trip.
Given that he did not have an official portrait from the journey, we decided to fix that with a trio of speedlights — and one very big light mod… Read more »
Just Posted: Sony Carl Zeiss Sonnar T* E 24mm F1.8 ZA / NEX-7 samples
Just Posted: Sony Carl Zeiss Sonnar T* E 24mm F1.8 ZA preview samples gallery. At the press launch we’ve had a chance to shoot with Sony’s latest E-mount prime lens: the Zeiss-branded 36mm equivalent 24mm F1.8 ZA. We’ve been shooting the lens on a pre-production NEX-7 to show its performance in front of a 24MP sensor. As usual we’ve tried to shoot the lens in a variety of conditions and at a variety of apertures to give an idea about how it behaves.
