Ricoh WG-5 GPS updates rugged series

Ricoh has introduced the WG-5 GPS, the latest in its line of rugged compacts. It exceeds its predecessor’s shockproof rating of 2m to 2.2m, and maintains its other rugged specs including -10C/+14F degree freezeproof rating, 14m/45 ft waterproof capability and 100kgf/220lbf crushproof rating. The WG-5 uses a 16MP BSI CMOS sensor, a 25-100mm equivalent zoom lens and as its name suggests, built-in GPS. Read more

Olympus Stylus Tough TG-860 updates rugged series

Olympus has refreshed its rugged compact series with the Stylus Tough TG-860. It offers a 16MP BSI-CMOS sensor and is capable of diving to greater depths than its predecessor, the TG-850 iHS, as it’s waterproof to 15m/50 ft (compared to 10m/33ft). Other new features include Wi-Fi and a pair of customizable buttons. Read more

Canon offers EOS 5D Mark III and EOS-1D X firmware updates

Canon has released firmware updates for its EOS 5D Mark III and EOS-1D X DSLRs. Both updates claim to improve the user’s ability to control autofocus in Live View mode when wide angle lenses are used. Firmware 2.0.7 for the 1D-X also fixes a couple of issues, including a problem with vertical lines appearing when long exposures are used. Read more

Phase One updates tethering and Raw conversion with Capture One 8.1

Camera and software manufacturer Phase One has released a new version of its Capture One Raw file converter that includes new tools, added flexibility and options, as well as support for additional cameras. Updating the version 8 that was made available in September 2014, Capture One 8.1 allows users to edit files in other applications, such as Photoshop, from inside the program and it now allows up to 16 adjustment layers to be used at one time. Read more

Canon updates Digital Photo Professional to version 4.1.50

Canon has updated its Digital Photo Professional 4 (DPP) software to version 4.1.50. The update brings support for a couple of new lenses and several camera models, improvements to multiple functions, and compatibility with 64-bit native environments, among other things. The newest version, says Canon, incorporates feedback from both APS-C and older full-frame owners eager for ‘the very latest Raw workflow solution’. Read more

Sigma updates USB dock for new lenses

Lens manufacturer Sigma has issued an update to the firmware of its USB dock to make it compatible with the new 150-600mm f/5.6-6.3 DG OS HSM S and 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3DC Macro OS HSM lenses. Although these lenses are available in Sigma, Canon and Nikon mounts, the update for the USB dock does not yet cover these lenses in the Nikon fit, and Sigma hasn’t indicated when it will. Read more

Hipstamatic updates Cinamatic with manual video controls

Cinamatic, Hipstamatic’s iOS app for capturing short video clips, has been updated to implement manual control over focus, exposure, white balance, shutter speed and ISO. This has been made possible by changes to the camera API in iOS 8. After the launch of the new OS manual control had been implemented in several still photography apps very quickly but Cinamatic is now the first video app to come with the additional controls. Read more

Ricoh updates Pentax 645Z firmware for IMAGE Transmitter 2 software

Ricoh Imaging has released new firmware for its Pentax 645Z medium format camera to make it compatible with the latest version of the company’s IMAGE Transmitter software. Firmware version 1.10, which is available to download by users via the Ricoh website, allows Pentax’s second digital medium format camera to be controlled when tethered to a PC via USB cable, so images can be saved directly from the camera into a chosen folder as they are taken. Read more

A new Mix: Adobe updates Photoshop Mix for iOS

In June Adobe announced Photoshop Mix, an image organization and manipulation app for the Apple iPad which can sync with Photoshop CC for desktop computers and Lightroom Mobile via Adobe’s Creative Cloud.Today the software maker has released Photoshop Mix 1.1, the first major upgrade to the new app. Improvements include support for large panoramic images and PNG fields as well as the option to open files directly from Dropbox. PocketWizard Updates TTL Compatibility For All Current Canon and Nikon DSLRs

PocketWizard has announced the latest ControlTL firmware upgrade to its line of ‘Control the Light’ wireless flash transceivers and receivers, updating the MiniTT1 Transmitter and FlexTT5 transceiver and receiver units to work with all available Canon and Nikon DSLR systems. The company has also added resources to achieve a much faster turnaround on updates, as evidenced by new support for the Nikon D810, which was just announced in late June. Read more
