Prototype to Reality: Super Space-Saving Bedroom Set

Matroshka All in One Furniture Set 1

Starting as a compact rectangle measuring just 13 square feet, the Matroshka all-in-one furniture set just continues to unfold, slide out and transform again and again until you think there can’t possibly be another function hidden inside it. And yet, somehow, there is. Named for the Russian nesting dolls, this space-saving furniture set includes bookshelves, a double bed, a corner couch, a desk, a wardrobe, a dining table, four stools and additional storage.

Matroshka All in One Furniture Set 2

The bed platform slides out from underneath the desk platform; take away a piece, and you’ve got the couch. A coffee table concealing four stools (with storage space inside, of course) also emerges from the bed platform, and rises to become a dining table. There’s also storage hidden under the stairs.

Matroshka All in One Furniture Set 3

The set incorporates virtually ever piece of furniture you need, even for entertaining guests, yet it could fit inside a fairly small room. There are enough seats for 12 people to sit around the table. This makes it an ideal choice for the micro apartments that are growing increasingly popular around the world.

Matroshka All in One Furniture Set 4

The Matroshka started out as a prototype, and thanks to investors, it’s now yours to own. Available from furniture dealers in Sweden and the UK, the Matroshka furniture set is made at a joinery workshop in Northern Sweden using birch plywood, oak veneer and Swedish woolen fabrics. It comes in your choice of left- or right-facing.

PCMB goes to the St. Louis Super Regionals for the first time (in a long time?). We scored 4th. This is my story told in the way of 3195 JPEG stills from my Nikon D300 DSLR. I had a 50mm ƒ/ 1.8D on 99% of the time. Colchicum ‘Lilac Wonder’ flower growing timelapse Filmed by Neil Bromhall for www.rightplants4me.co.uk These flowers bloom in autumn. Plant in well drained soil. If the soil is too wet the bulbs are prone to rotting. This was filmed in my studio over a period of 6 days using Nikon D300 camera, Ellinchrom studio flash, Exposure interval 8 minutes The damaged flower was chewed by an unknown pest underground before it emerged. It was probably a slug Music “Gently” by Debbie Wiseman

Using a super clamp to mount your Zoom H4n on your boom pole – DSLR FILM NOOB

18 Nov

www.dslrfilmnoob.com Super Clamps are handy little devices. You don’t have to use them with a manfrotto magic arm for them to come in handy. One Great use for them is mounting your zoom h4n. Using the stud that comes with your super clamp you can mount a threaded cold show adapter rcm.amazon.com or threading it into the super clamp stud: rcm.amazon.com Either way provide you with a great way to mount your zoom h4n to your boom pole. The zoom h4n is light enough that you wont be over taxed by the extra weight, and with the multiple mounting options on a super clamp you could always mount a wireless transmitter/receiver to send audio out or bring it in from other sources. When i have to operate the boom mic from long distances I often attach a wireless transmitter to send my audio back to the camera. That way my 7d has a good solid sync track for dualeyes to work with. Equipment used in this video: Canon t2i canon 35mm f1.4 Zoom h4n Cowboy super clamp and manfrotto super clamp Sennheiser g2 wireless transmitter

Super Skyscrapers! 20 Concept Towers That Reach Sky High

02 Nov

[ By Marc in Architecture & Cities & Urbanism. ]

Architects are all dreamers. While their special projects and grand ideas often aren’t considered practical enough to be created, looking at their concepts is a great way to see the potential that architecture holds in the future, as creativity and beauty is increasingly rewarded.

(Images via skyscrapernews, eikonographia, igreenspot)

The top left skyscraper is a dream of architects Adrian Smith and Gordon Gill, planned to be created in Dubai. The architecture firm TVS Associates came up with an even crazier concept for four towers, also planned for Dubai. Guess where that last building is being planned for? Yep, Dubai! Oppenheim came up with this gorgeously flowing Marina and Beach Tower.

(Images via webecoist, ibuildthetower, eamusing)

Designer Michael Jantzen loves to design towers with a fun, open aesthetic and a functional purpose (in this case, generating wind power while providing a beautiful view). The Watts towers are a famous one man project built in an abandoned lot by Sam Rodia, showing that some of these concepts can be built, even if it’s on a small scale. The final image is the back of a solar tower being built for the 2016 Olympic games being put on in Rio. The back has a gorgeous waterfall, and the front, featured below is equally stunning.

The Atrium City Towers, created by Adrian Smith, are a concept design for a series of connected towers to be constructed in Dubai. The front of Rio’s 2016 Olympic Games torch is a gorgeous structure, which will get a lot of use even after the games. These waterfront structures are planned for a Malaysian waterfront, and were designed by Studio Nicoletti Associati. Created for an Olympics, the “falling towers” building in Beijing, China (concept shown) are now a reality in the city. The Almaty Twin Towers are going to be built in Kazakhstan. They were designed by Norman Foster.

(Images via yankodesign, urbika, e-architect)

Zaha Hadid designed the “dancing towers” which reject the typical idea that towers have to be perfectly vertical. The Dubai Towers (now a canceled project) were also more fluid than most, adding a literal twist to the typical tower. The Nomas towers in Bahrain are an interesting concept and almost look like smoke stacks more than mixed use buildlings.

(Images via ecofriend, ctbuh, skyscraperpage, luxurylaunches)

The Fog Tower was designed by  Alberto Fernandez and Susana Ortega and would stand at the edge of the Atamaca desert, absorbing moisture and creating a beautiful haze. the Singapore Towers are a wild twist on the typical tower, with several sections hanging off of a central core, and creating an incredibly unique look. This 101 story tower was designed for Dubai (where else?) and while it would stand out remarkably in most other cities, it says something about Dubai’s architecture that this one seems almost mundane. The Z10 Towers, designed by Dinesh Doshi, are mixed use and remarkable for their appearance, and the fact that they are surrounded by water.

(Images via greendiary, skyscrapercity)

The Moda-Gakuen Spiral Towers were designed for Nagoya City, Japan and have a stunning fluidity that is perfect for a structure on the edge of the water. Mumbai has this interesting design, an over 50 story building developed by Godrej Construction that is somewhat reminiscent of building blocks.

New Camera Setup Tips – Super Secret Project

29 Oct

froknowsphoto.com It is really exciting when you get a new camera whether it is a new Nikon D3100 or D7000 or Canon T2i or 60D. But as soon as you take it out of the box what are the 7 things I suggest you set first in the menu? 1. Set the Camera to RAW and never take it out (or RAW + JPEG if you are new to RAW) 2. Set the card Lock – make sure that the camera will not fire without a memory card in it. 3. Set your date and time – make sure you do not let it write the date and time on the picture. 4. Set your White Balance to Auto – You are shooting RAW and will tweak it if needed later. 5. Turn off AUTO ISO if it is on – You will make better selections than the camera 6. Picture Review Off – This will keep you from looking at every single picture you take 7. Image Rotation On – This will orient the vertical shots properly when you bring the files into LightRoom There are a lot more settings in the camera I could talk about but I find these 7 will help you get off to a great start.
