Microsoft releases Camera Codec Pack with Raw support for 34 extra cameras

Microsoft has released an updated version of its Camera Codec Pack for Windows Vista, 7, 8 and RT. The latest update allows applications such as Windows Explorer, Windows Photo Viewer, Media Center, and Windows Photo Gallery to deal with Raw files from 34 additional cameras. The cameras include the Canon EOS M, Olympus OM-D E-M5 and Sony NEX-7.

Adobe releases Lightroom 4.3 and Adobe Camera Raw 7.3

Adobe has released Photoshop Lightroom 4.3 and Adobe Camera Raw 7.3. These are final versions of updates that were originally posted as ‘release candidates’ on the Adobe Labs site, and are available for immediate download. The latest versions provide RAW support for 13 additional cameras, including the Canon EOS 6D, Nikon D5200 and Sony DSC-RX1. The Mac version of Lightroom features a Develop module that supports Apple’s HiDPI mode, that makes the interface easier to read on the ‘Retina’ panels used on recent Macs.

Unified Color releases HDR Express 2 for Windows & Mac

HDR software maker Unified Color Technologies has announced version 2 of its HDR Express high dynamic range merge and editing software for Windows and Mac. New features include Image Stacking that automatically groups bracketed exposures and a browser with thumbnail previews. Along with improved de-ghosting algorithms, the software also includes single-click presets and a new slideshow feature. Its native .BEF format can be opened in Adobe Photoshop and Apple Aperture via a plug-in for further editing. HDR Express 2 is available for an introductory price of $ 84.00 or $ 59 for current Unified Color users.

Phase One has announced Capture One Pro 7, the latest version of its image processing and workflow tool. The latest version is based around an entirely new image processing engine and gains digital asset management tools, developed from the company’s experience with its Media Pro software. The software’s tethered shooting option now gains live view for some DSLR models. The software will cost $ 299/€229 with significant discounts for upgraders from previous versions.

Adobe releases Camera Raw 7.2 and Lightroom 4.2, adding 21 cameras

Adobe has released the final versions of Adobe Camera Raw 7.2 and Lightroom 4.2. The latest updates bring finalized support for 21 additional cameras, including the Sony A99 and RX100, the Fujifilm X-E1 and the Canon EOS M. Lightroom gains tethering support for 11 cameras, including the Nikon D800 and Canon EOS 5D Mark III. It also adds support for ‘Albums’ in its uploader to the Revel service. Updates are available through the in-software update systems.

Olympus releases SP-820UZ and SP-720UZ 14MP superzooms

Olympus has released the SP-820UZ and SP720UZ – the latest in its long-running Ultrazoom series of superzoom cameras. Both are 14MP CMOS-based cameras featuring 1080p movie capture and 460k dot 3″ LCDs. The SP-820UZ features a 40x, 22.4-896mm equivalent lens and takes AA batteries. The SP-720UZ is built around a shorter, 26x, 26-676mm equivalent zoom lens. Both models feature sensor-shift image stabilization, can control Eye-Fi wireless SD cards and can automatically shoot pictures when a pet looks directly at them. Olympus US has only announced the SP-820UZ.

Casio Europe releases Exilimi EX-ZR300 Mini DV high-speed compact camera

Casio Europe has launched the Exilim EX-ZR300 Mini DV – its name for the EX-ZR300, released in Japan in May 2012. It features a 12.5x, 24-300mm zoom lens and dual processors to help it offer focus times as short as 0.12s. It is also designed to offer control over both Flash Air and Eye-Fi wireless SD cards, for simple connection to smartphones. In common with other recent Casio flagship models, it also offers a series of high-speed features and is rated at an impressive 500 shots per charge, using CIPA testing methodology. It will be available for August at a cost of around €279.
