Pre-Photokina 2010: Nikon has released an updated version of its 200mm F2 VR professional lens. Retaining the same lens construction as its predecessor, the AF-S Nikkor 200mm F2G ED VR II features the company’s latest, second generation Vibration Reduction technology (VR II) and adds adds a new mode onto the AF switch. It also includes nano-crystal coating to reduce ghosting and flare. Priced at £5299.99, it will be start shipping next month.

Nikon releases Speedlight SB-700 flashgun
Pre-Photokina 2010: Nikon has announced the Speedlight SB-700 flashgun. With a guide number of 38 (at ISO 100 at 120mm on an FX camera), it is a more powerful replacement for the SB-600, gaining the operation and handling improvements introduced with the SB-900. Like the SB-600 it offers wireless control and similar recycle times. Its multi-step auto zoom offers extended reach from 24 to 120mm, rather than the 600’s 24-85mm. Physical features includes a rotating head, built-in bounce card and a supplied diffuser.

Phase One releases Capture One 5.2
Phase One has released an updated version of its Capture One 5, PRO and DB RAW workflow software bringing in a host of improvements, additional features and bug fixes. Version 5.2 extends the programs’ Lens Cast Calibration (LCC) feature that aims to remove lens casts to DSLR RAW files and adds LCC based dust removal. It also improves handling of a number of Nikon camera files and supports Leica X1 Raw files. The update can be accessed via Capture One’s update feature for existing users or is available as a free 30 day trial.

Sigma releases 70-200mm F2.8 OS for Nikon
Sigma has announced its 70-200mm F2.8 EX DG OS HSM image-stabilised fast telezoom is now available in Nikon F mount. Previously available in Canon EF mount, the Nikon version is priced at ,470. The lens features a new optical design that uses two elements made of the company’s recently developed ‘FLD’ glass plus three SLD glass elements to reduce aberrations, a 9-blade circular aperture, and features full-time manual focus override. It also comes with an adapter for APS-C users.

Nik Software releases HDR Efex Pro Software
Nik Software has announced HDR Efex Pro, an HDR processing plug-in for Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom and Apple Aperture compatible with both Windows and Mac. Based around its proprietary tone mapping technology, it offers number of presets and tools for selective fine-tuning, ghost removal and shadow/highlight recovery for both multiple and single images. The software installs as a 32-bit or 64-bit plug-in compatible with the applications as far back as Photoshop CS3, Lightroom 2.3 and Apple Aperture 2.1. HDR Efex Pro will be available from Autumn 2010 at a suggested retail price of 9.95.

Corel releases CoreDRAW Premium Suite X5
Pre-Photokina 2010: Corel has announced the CorelDRAW Premium Suite X5, a collection of software applications designed for print, web and video, design and editing. Based around its Graphics Suite graphic design tools, it includes color management, website creation, image and video-editing, and file compression tools. The Premium Suite X5 is now available as an upgrade to existing users of Graphics Suite X5 at a suggested retail price of 9 or 9 for first time buyers.

Kodak releases EasyShare M950 digital compact camera
Kodak has released what it calls the world’s thinnest 5x optical zoom compact. Measuring 15mm on its thinnest side, the EasyShare M950 digital compact offers 14Mp sensor, 35-175mm equiv. lens and 2.7" LCD. It includes features such as 720p HD recording, direct online sharing options and takes Micro SD/SDHC memory cards. The company has also announced the Pulse 10-inch touchscreen digital frame with internet access. Both the camera and digital frame are priced at 9.95 each and will be available from the end of this month.
