Samsung has announced the ST93 compact camera. The 16MP CCD-based camera offers a 5x optical zoom lens starting at a useful 26mm equivalent. Its features include 720p HD video recording, a Panorama mode, the company’s latest Smart filters and Magic Frame templates. Further specifications are not currently available.

Pentax releases Optio RS1500 with changeable covers
Pentax has announced the Optio RS1500 compact camera with interchangeable, user designable covers. Identically specced to the RS1000 launched last year, it features a simpler, snap-on system for attaching different covers, rather than the screw-on system of the older model. The RS1500 ships with 10 skins, with the option to download or create your own cover that secures behind a transparent front-plate. Features include a 14MP sensor, a 27.5-110mm equivalent lens and 720p HD movie recording capabilities.

Bibble Labs releases Bibble 5.2.1 Pro & Lite
Bibble Labs has announced an updated version of its Bibble 5 RAW workflow software. Version 5.2.1 extends RAW support to the recently released Canon Rebel T3/EOS 600D and Rebel T3i/EOS 1100D digital SLRs. Both the Pro and Lite versions also bring stability improvements, resolve specific lens identification issues and fix an issue related to cropping images in Multi-View mode.

Apple releases RAW compatibility update
Apple has released a digital camera RAW compatibility update for Aperture 3 and iPhoto ’11. Update 3.6 extends RAW support to six additional cameras including the Canon Rebel T3/T3i, Olympus E-5 and Pentax K-5. It also addresses processing issues for four already supported cameras. The update is available for immediate download from Apple’s website.

Pentax releases service notice for K-5 DSLR
Pentax is offering a free service to users of K-5 DSLRs that have been affected by the widely reported ‘stained image sensor’ issue. The company believes the problem occurred during the manufacturing process of the first batch of K-5’s and cannot be resolved by ordinary sensor cleaning methods. Affected camera owners can contact the company’s customer service center to send their cameras for the repair.

Samsung releases WB700 ultra-compact with 18x zoom lens
Pre-CES 2011: Samsung has released the WB700 ultra-compact with 18x optical zoom. The camera offers an equivalent zoom range of 24-432mm, optical image stabilization, RAW format shooting, P/A/S/M shooting modes and Smart Filters. It can also shoot 720p HD movies in H.264 format and offers HD output. It will be available from April 2011 at a retail price of 9.99 in the US market and £249.99 in the UK.

Leica releases firmware update for S2
Leica has released a function-enhancing firmware update for its S2 medium format DSLR. Version 1.0.0.24 adds lossless DNG compression, boosts burst rate to 1.5 frames per second and increases maximum exposure time to 125 seconds. The update also adds more options for AF/AE button, extends compatibility to 64GB UDMA cards and brings in improvements to the AF performance and preview histogram. Registered users can download the latest firmware via the Owner’s Area on Leica’s website.

Mamiya releases RZ22 medium format camera
Mamiya has announced the RZ22 digital medium format camera system featuring a 22MP 48 x 36 CCD sensor. Similar to the company’s previously released RZ33 medium format camera, it features fully integrated electronics for direct communication with the digital back and offers image capture rate of 1.1 seconds per frame. The RZ22 is compatible with all RZ system lenses and most accessories. It is currently available in the US market at a retail price of ,499.

Kingston releases 600x CompactFlash card
Kingston has announced the Ultimate 600x (90MB/s) UDMA CompactFlash memory card in 32GB and 16GB capacities. The fastest CF card from the company to date, it complements HD movie recording capabilities and continuous shooting speeds of the latest UDMA-enabled DSLRs. Kingston joins the list of manufacturers making 600x cards including a 64GB version from Sandisk.

Panasonic releases TZ10, FP3, FP2 and FP1 firmware updates
Panasonic has released firmware updates for its Lumix DMC-TZ10, DMC-FP1, DMC-FP2 and DMC-FP3 digital compacts. Version 1.2 for the TZ10/ZS7 improves the camera’s GPS measurement speed. The latest firmware versions for the FP1, FP2 and FP3 improves the performance of the red-eye removal function. The updates are available for download from Panasonic’s website.
