Xiaomi unveils Mi 4 high-end phone with 8MP front camera

Chinese device manufacturer Xiaomi unveiled its latest flagship smartphone, the Mi 4, today. With a metal frame and a distinctly iPhone-esque design the Mi 4 looks like a premium product and its specification sheet confirms this initial impression, boasting a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 SoC and 3GB RAM. Main camera specs appear standard for current-generation Android phones, with a 13MP rear camera but an unusually high-resolution 8MP at the front. Click through for more details.

Amazon Fire phone packs 6 cameras for 3D effects and object scanning

Amazon has officially announced its much-rumored smartphone, the Fire. Packing in six cameras in total, four of them are dedicated to enabling a new ‘Dynamic Perspective’ 3D-user interface possible, whereby the device can track a user’s face and change how content is displayed. The main 13MP rear-facing camera has an F2 aperture and optical image stabilization. As well as being used for capturing photographs is also enables a new feature called Firefly, which can scan and identify millions of items. Read more

Amazon launch planned for June 18, rumors point to 3D eye-tracking phone

Amazon has scheduled a product launch for later this month at its headquarters in Seattle, WA. We are not being told what type of device we should expect but Amazon has started to tease the new model with a picture of one of its corners and a video showing users looking down at a device and reacting with statements like “It moved with me”. The teaser seems to support rumors from late last year that Amazon could be planning a smartphone with a 3D eye-tracking user interface using multiple cameras.
