Olympus expands wide angle offerings with 7-14mm F2.8 and 8mm F1.8 ‘Pro’ lenses

Olympus has announced two additions to its Micro Four Thirds ‘Pro’ lens series, the M.Zuiko Digital ED 7-14mm F2.8 and 8mm F1.8 Fisheye PRO. Both are weather and dust resistant and lighter than their competitors, according to the company, and both are slated to become available in June. Read more

Hands-on with new Olympus PRO 8mm and 7-14mm lenses

12 May

They’ve been on Olympus’s roadmap for a while, but today the company officially announced to new wideangle ‘Pro’ lenses – the The M.ZUIKO Digital ED 7-14mm f2.8 PRO and M.ZUIKO Digital ED 8mm Fisheye PRO. The 8mm fisheye is equivalent to a 16mm, while the 7-14mm covers an equivalent focal length range of 14-28mm. Both lenses are weather-sealed and are clearly intended for use with the company’s high-end OM-D cameras. Click through for a closer look

Olympus Stylus Tough TG-4 to offer Raw capture

Olympus has announced a new flagship rugged compact, the Stylus Tough TG-4. It offers modest improvements over its TG-3 predecessor, namely Raw shooting capability. It offers the same 16MP BSI CMOS sensor as the previous model, a 25-100mm equivalent f/2.0-4.9 zoom lens, Wi-Fi, and a built-in GPS. Read more

Olympus brings Stylus 1s enthusiast super zoom to the US

Olympus has announced the Stylus 1s in the US, a camera it had previously announced in Japan last year. This enthusiast compact features much of the same hardware as its predecessor, the Olympus Stylus 1, including a 12MP 1/1.7″ BSI CMOS sensor, 28-300mm equivalent F2.8 lens, and integrated Wi-Fi. Added features include a redesigned grip, higher-capacity BLS-50 battery, Small AF target mode, and Step Zoom with nine preset zoom positions. Read more

Sony sells half of its Olympus stake

Sony is selling half its stake in Olympus to investment bank JP Morgan to free up cash for ‘strategic investments,’ the company has announced. Sony bought a 10% stake in the medical and camera company in 2012, primarily to gain access to the global medical market to which it hoped to apply its sensor, 3D and display technologies. At the time Olympus’s future was in doubt, following revelations that it had misstated its accounts having been secretly redirecting money to pay off long-standing debts that has been hidden from investors. Read more

When we attended CP+ last month in Yokohama, Japan we sat down with senior executives from several major camera and lens manufacturers. Among them was Haruo Ogawa, President of the Imaging Business Group and Executive Managing Officer at Olympus Corporation. Olympus offers Stylus SH-2 with Raw support

Olympus has announced an update to its Pen-like travel zoom: the Stylus SH-2. The SH-2 replaces the SH-1 with added support for Raw shooting, while maintaining the previous model’s 24x zoom (25-600mm equiv.), 16MP BSI CMOS sensor, 5-axis image stabilization and built-in Wi-Fi. Read more
