Another Hasselblad Rebadge or Photoshopped Hoax?

18 Oct

Hasselblad-Solar-camera_zpsc994b282.jpg

Various rumor sites are today reporting Hasselblad is poised to release a $ 10,000 rebadge of the Sony A7 that was just announced yesterday. Some even report it as if it’s a real product. Even just a cursory glance at the image suggests it’s a quick Photoshop job to add a wood grip and lighten the tint of the body. The serial number on the lens also suspiciously matches the product shots Sony released yesterday as well. What do you think?

26 July, 2013 – Hasselblad Jumps The Shark

26 Jul

No doubt you’ve heard of the Hasselblad Lunar, that company’s gussied-up version of the Sony NEX-7, sold at 6X the normal price of that soon to be superceded camera.

In an essay just published today I let you know in no uncertain terms what I think of this Wretched Excess.

"Having been to Antarctica with Michael and Kevin, I would say after having traveled the world and shot nearly my entire life as an exhibiting photographer,  it was one of my highlights in my life and I talk about it, all the time.  The images and experience of seeing something visionary and nearly extinct from the world, to see and experience the wildlife and scenery that does not fear humans is amazing.  The images I shot there won me two Smithsonian awards and nearly 18 other international awards". – Tim Wolcott

Hasselblad announces distinctly RX100-esque ‘Stellar’ compact

23 Jul

Stellar.png

Hasselblad has unveiled a rather familiar-looking compact camera – the Stellar. The very RX100-esque compact offers the same 28-100mm equivalent Zeiss-branded zoom and 20MP 1″-type sensor as the Sony, but comes with a substantial hand-grip made from a choice of exotic materials and, we suspect, a significantly higher price tag.

Hasselblad HD5 Comment Win.

24 Mar

On Strobist, I try not to merely echo content seen elsewhere. I just don't think rote aggregation adds much to the conversation. But I am making an exception on this Hassy HD5 BTS vid, which you may have seen recently on other sites.

That's because the video itself (which, to be fair, is quite cool) is not the subject of the post. Nope, this post is about a comment on this video from long-time Strobist reader Duncan Bell. Here's my setup to the video, as I shared it on my G+ stream:
__________

Such a simple—and expensive—concept.

1. Shoot a palace interior. ($ $ $ )
2. Print it on big-ass vinyl. ($ $ $ )
3. Suspend big-ass vinyl print in a rented olympic-sized pool. ($ $ )
4. Light the living crap out of the pool. ($ $ $ $ )
5. Shoot a model in front of it with Hassy HD5 MF digital camera. ($ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ )
6. But make sure that camera is in a waterproof housing that itself probably cost more than my car. ($ $ $ $ )

Enjoy.

To which Duncan added the following, most apropos Strobist comment, elevating the video/comment combo into something I simply had to post…

Behind the scenes of the Hasselblad H5D advertising campaign

20 Mar

Hasselblad_underwater.png

Photographer Henrik Sorensen has uploaded an interesting behind-the-scenes YouTube video of his recent ‘submerged fairy’ shoot for the advertising campaign for Hasselblad’s H5D digital medium format camera. Taking inspiration from Danish folklore and its royal history he opted to use a submerged castle interior as the backdrop. Click through to watch the video (via FStoppers)

Hasselblad H4D-200MS offers 200 megapixel multi-shot images

30 May

Hasselblad has announced a camera capable of producing 200MP images based on shifting its 50MP sensor. The H4D-200MS uses an extension of the company’s sensor-shift, multi-shot (MS) technology to create a 200 megapixel file from six images taken at slight offsets. It can also use the four-shot mode used by the H4D-50MS that shifts the sensor by one pixel in each direction to capture all colors at each position. The latest approach adds 1/2pixel offsets to increase the captured resolution to 200MP. The H4D-200MS is available for €32,000 or as a €7,000 factory-return upgrade for H4D-50MS owners.
