On the 2nd day of Christmas dPS gave to me – 30% off Phil Steele’s Flash Portrait Course!

Regular readers of this site will know of Phil Steele because we’ve regularly featured videos from him over the last few months (among our most popular posts this year).

So when we were putting together our current 12 Days of Christmas campaign this year Phil was a no-brainer of to ask to participate as the reviews from readers on his courses are excellent.

In todays deal Phil is kindly offering a 30% discount on his popular Flash Portrait Course – a video course designed to help you take professional headshots and and portraits using a DSLR and basic flash.

Not only will this course save you from spending a fortune on gear you might not need, for the next 24 hours you can own this practical flash portraits guide for just $ 33.

Off-Camera Flash Photography with Nikon’s CLS System

17 Nov

froknowsphoto.com This video is an introduction to using Nikon’s built-in CLS (creative lighting system) to wirelessly trigger off-camera flashes. Many Nikon DSLR’s have the capability to wirelessly command and control off-camera flashes. This system is very powerful in that you can use both TTL and manual control and somewhat limited because infared is line-of-sight and has a limited range. The amazing thing about this is that you can control the power output of several flashes in different groups directly by using the built-on, pop-up flash from your camera. In this video, I use a Nikon D700’s built-on pop-up flash to control an off-camera Nikon SB800 flash thru a small softbox and another SB800 thru a shoot-thru umbrella. By going into the flash control settings on the camera and setting the camera’s built-on flash to act as a commander, you can wirelessly control off-camera flashes directly from your camera. I touch understanding a bit about different lighting zones – Ambient light, Key Light and Fill Light. All important to understanding how to dial-in the right amount of light for flash photography. 10 Nov

razzi.me www.facebook.com www.PhotographersOnUTube.com https Here is a quick review of Yongnuo YN560 flash. It’s a great flash for people on a tight budget. It’s a manual flash without TTL feature. It doesn’t have the LCD screen unlike YN560II flash which I’ll be reviewing in a few weeks.

Joe McNally – Repeating Flash

08 Nov

“The best photographs move you—emotionally, intellectually, spiritually. There’s almost a visceral reaction to a really striking photograph that communicates on all those levels.” Joe McNally has been described as “perhaps the most versatile photojournalist working today,” a distinction earned for his ability to capture compelling images in locations as diverse as an operating room, the top of the Empire State Building and the cockpit of a jet aircraft. Noted for his technical mastery, what makes him unique is his ability to create and imaginatively render “the big idea”—the unique or startling concept that frames a single image or a long-term project. He has been published in virtually every major magazine, including Life, Newsweek, Time and Sports Illustrated (where he was a contract photographer for six years) and is a recipient of the Alfred Eisenstadt Award for outstanding magazine photography.
