[UPDATED] Nikon announces new firmware for 300mm F4 VR to fix blur at certain shutter speeds

Nikon has announced a firmware update for its new AF-S NIKKOR 300mm f/4E PF ED VR, to fix an issue where at certain shutter speeds on D800-series cameras, images can exhibit ‘noticeable blur’. According to Nikon, the problem can occur at around 1/125sec with the lens’s VR function enabled in either ‘Normal’ or ‘Sport’ modes. Users of affected units are encouraged to return their lenses to Nikon where the update will be applied free of charge. Click through for more details

Pentax DSLRs gain firmware updates to accommodate new lenses

Ricoh has released new firmware for three of its DSLR cameras in preparation for the arrival of new HD lenses to the K-series. The Pentax K-3, K-S2 and K-S1 will receive updates that allow them to get the most out of the forthcoming HD Pentax-D FA 150-450mm f/4.5-5.6ED DC AW and HD Pentax-D FA*70-200mm f/2.8 ED DC AW lenses, while the K-3 and K-S1 also gain compatibility with the HD Pentax-DA 18-50mm f/4-5.6 DC WR RE standard zoom. Read more

Panasonic DMC-GH4 firmware v2.2 brings 4:3 shooting for anamorphic shooters

Panasonic has announced firmware v2.2 for the GH4 to make it easier to use anamorphic lenses with the camera. The new anamorphic mode allows the camera to capture video from a 4:3 aspect ratio chunk from the middle of the sensor to match the projection of specialist lenses, allowing genuine anamorphic capture, rather than digital simulation of the look.

Nikon firmware update to allow improved communication with Atomos recording devices

Nikon has announced that it will release new firmware for three of its DSLRs, improving their ability to communicate with the Atomos Shogun and Ninja-2 external video recording devices. The cameras concerned are the Nikon D4S, the D810 and the D750 and the update is slated to arrive this summer. Read more

Atomos has released a major firmware update to the Atomos Shogun 4K external video recorder. The Shogun, already popular among filmmakers and professional videographers thanks to its 4K 10-bit ProRes recording capabilities, gains several important features that should appeal to motion picture shooters. Olympus announces OM-D E-M1 firmware version 3.0

The Olympus OM-D E-M1 is about to get an update with the release of firmware version 3.0 later this month. Canon offers EOS 5D Mark III and EOS-1D X firmware updates

Canon has released firmware updates for its EOS 5D Mark III and EOS-1D X DSLRs. Both updates claim to improve the user’s ability to control autofocus in Live View mode when wide angle lenses are used. Firmware 2.0.7 for the 1D-X also fixes a couple of issues, including a problem with vertical lines appearing when long exposures are used. Read more
