Leica unveils M Monochrom Oslo Edition, limited to just 10 units

The Leica Store in Oslo has announced a special edition Leica M Monochrom (Typ 246) camera simply called the Oslo Edition. This model is offered exclusively by the Leica Store Oslo, and though it is available worldwide, the edition is limited to just 10 units—this might be your best chance to get an ultra-rare Leica at a not-totally-insane price.

Both the camera body and the lens are engraved with the word ‘OSLO’ and a unit number ranging from 1 to 10. In addition to the special engraving and edition numbers, the Leica M Oslo Edition is shipped with a Leica Summaron-M 28mm F5.6 lens sporting a unique black finish.

The special edition is packed in a gift box containing the lens, a battery, battery charger, and a Certificate of Authenticity. The Oslo Edition is available to purchase now for Kr. 118,000 / $ 14,800 USD. In other words: approximately double the cost of the regular Leica M Monochrom Typ 246.

Ricoh launches Pentax K-1 Limited Silver Edition

Pentax has made a tradition of launching silver-colored limited edition models of its DSLR line-up, and today parent company Ricoh has done just that, announcing a special edition of the Pentax K-1 36MP full-frame DSLR.

The silver K-1 is limited to 2,000 units worldwide, and features a high-grade silver-color coating on the camera body and battery grip to match the lineup of silver Pentax FA Limited lenses. There is also a limited edition metal hot shoe cover with logo, and the package includes a battery grip and two batteries. All the pieces come wrapped up in an exclusively designed product box.

The Pentax K-1 Limited Silver Edition will be available in mid-September. In the UK the recommended retail price is £2,150 (approximately $ 2755); no information on US pricing has been released yet.

Motorola Moto Z2 Force Edition comes with dual-cam and depth mode

Motorola has unveiled its 2017 flagship smartphone, the Moto Z2. Unsurprisingly the design is quite similar to the original Moto Z and comes with electronic contacts on the back, allowing for the attachment of Motorola’s Moto Mod accessory modules, such as the Hasselblad TrueZoom camera module.

At 6.1mm the device is very thin and comes with a full-metal shell that features a water-repellent nano-coating. In addition, the 2560×1440 Super AMOLED display is shatterproof, making the Z2 more rugged than most of its competitors in the premium segment of the market.

Android 7.1.1 is powered by Qualcomm’s current top-end chipset Snapdragon 835 but at 2730mAh is smaller than on many other high-end phones, which is probably owed to the thinness of the device.

The Moto Z2 is Motorola’s first smartphone to feature a dual-camera setup. Similar to the concept used in Huawei’s recent top-end phones the Moto combines a Sony IMX 1/2.9″ RGB sensor with a monochrome imager and uses image-fusion technology to optimize detail, noise levels, dynamic range and other aspects of image quality.

A depth-mode for simulating a shallow depth-of-field is on board as well and, compared to previous high-end Moto models, Motorola has significantly improved the panorama mode which can now produce much larger image output and fewer ghosting artifacts on moving subjects.

In video mode the Moto Z2 camera is capable of recording 4K footage and 720p slow-motion video at 240 fps or 1080p clips at 120 fps. The front camera offers a 5MP resolution and comes with a wide-selfie mode. A Pro mode provides manual control over shutter speed and other camera parameters and the DNG Raw format is supported with third-party camera apps.

With the dual-cam, improved panorama and slow-motion modes and new features, the Moto Z2 looks like a very promising update to the original Z2, especially in the camera department. You will be able to pre-order the Moto Z2 Force Edition from tomorrow. The device will be available from August 10 launch at a base price of $ 720.

Nikon releases limited edition camera posters for 100th anniversary

If a gunmetal grey Nikon D5 doesn’t really suit your fancy, and the thought of weighing down your stationary with a crystal Nikon effigy just doesn’t get the blood pumping, then maybe Nikon’s latest 100th anniversary product will hit the spot. Nikon has teamed up with portfolio and printing company Level.Press to create a series of limited edition camera posters that are actually pretty sweet.

There are 10 posters in all, each of them showcasing a different iconic Nikon camera model alongside the year the model was released as well as a small blurb about that model’s history. In order, they are the Nikon I, Nikon SP, Nikon F, the Calypso, Nikon Photomic FTn, Nikon F2 Photomic, Nikon F3, the Nikonos-V, the Nikonos-RS and the Nikon D1.

“These ten designs, each of an iconic Nikon camera and limited to just 100 first edition prints, will be printed on archival fine art paper, hand-numbered, embossed with a special seal and beautifully framed to your liking by Level Frames,” reads the product description on Level.Press. “Beautiful enough to adorn a home, office or studio, these 19.5″ x 19.5″ limited edition posters are the perfect gift for yourself or anyone passionate about photography and the simple, functional, classic design of these historic Nikon cameras.”

Perfect if you can afford them… that is. Given the high quality of the prints and the limited run, the framed posters sell for between $ 127 and $ 173 depending on how much matting you want. Not bad, when you really think about it, but quite a chunk of change for a poster.

Still, we like it a lot better than that crystal thing.

Rare Nikon D500 ‘Rex Edition’ still works despite run-in with German Shepherd

Just a day after purchasing the camera new, a customer of Belgian camera shop PCH brought his Nikon D500 back in with some, uh, unique cosmetic modifications. His German Shepherd ‘Rex’ got ahold of the camera and gave it a bit of a makeover, chewing through most of the lens hood and memory card port cover.

As highlighted in the video above, the D500’s magnesium-alloy build prevented Rex from doing any real structural damage. And amazingly, the camera seems to be in perfect working condition, aside from a lingering dog-chew-toy-smell noted by PCH. If nothing else, it’s a testament to the D500’s toughness, and reminder to dog owners to keep new cameras out of reach from curious pets.

Lomography unveils Lomo’Instant Panama Edition

Lomography has launched a new model in its range of instant film cameras today. The Lomo’Instant Panama Edition is technologically very similar to the other cameras in the Lomo’Instant range but features a design that according to Lomography has been inspired by “the lusty smell of rainforests, the rumble of tamborito drums, and the salty taste of the air as you sail through beautiful tropical islands”.

Like other Lomo’Instant cameras the Panama Edition captures images on Fuji Instax Mini film with an exposure area of 42 x 64mm. It also offers some manual control over the exposure process, allowing for shutter speeds from 1/125sec to Bulb mode for long-exposure and up to +/- 2EV exposure compensation. You can also shoot multiple exposures and the camera comes with a standard tripod mount and a built-in flash.

The Lomo’Instant Panama Edition is $ 105 on its own or comes in a kit with close-up, portrait and fisheye lenses that will set you back $ 129. The box also contains a range of colored gel filters but no film or battery. More information is available on the Lomography website.

Impossible launches special edition Polaroid 600 and metallic frame color film

Impossible has released a special edition of its Polaroid 600 instant camera with a two-tone black and white design. The new model is an online-shop exclusive and will set you back $ 179 in the US or €149 in Europe.

In addition, the company has revealed the Metallic Frame Edition color film pack for 600-type cameras which places your analogue instant photos into shimmering foil frames of different colors. Each photo in the pack of eight features a different colored metallic frame, including gold, blue, purple and pink. The Metallic Frame Edition film pack is $ 24.49 in the US and €21.00 in Europe. Leica unveils limited edition Leica M Monochrom “Jim Marshall Set”

Leica has released a limited-edition Leica M Monochrom “Jim Marshall Set”. Jim Marshall was the first and only photographer to receive the Grammy Trustees Award. The edition will be limited to 50 sets worldwide. The kit includes the new brass plated Leica M Monochrom camera with a special “Laiton” finish. Leica says the latter provides a unique matte quality. The camera comes with an inscription of Jim Marshall’s autograph and a Summilux-M 50mm f/1.4 ASPH lens.

In the box you’ll also find a Jim Marshall Limited Edition Estate print of “Thelonious Monk at the Monterey Jazz Festival 1964” and a special, numbered edition and estate embossed copy of the book Jim Marshall: Jazz Festival.

To mark the occasion the Leica Gallery Los Angeles which will showcase some of Marshall’s images of jazz icons like Miles Davis, Nina Simone and Thelonious Monk. The exhibit will run from June 15th through July 31st.

Kodak’s first issue of new ‘limited edition’ Kodachrome magazine now on sale in the US

Late last year Kodak announced that it would produce Kodachrome (sorry, not that Kodachrome), a magazine dedicated to art, culture and all things analog. Today, it has become available for sale to US residents on the company’s website.

The limited run first edition costs $ 20, weighs in at 80 pages and includes features on actress/director Chloë Sevigny, filmmaker Isaac Julien and illustrator Tad Carpenter. The magazine was created by Stranger Collective, a UK-based content agency.

A prototype of the Leica Noctilux-M 50mm Edition 0.95 can be yours for $25K

As if $ 13,950 wasn’t enough to pay for a special edition lens, the Leica Store in San Francisco is offering a prototype of the Noctilux-M f/0.95 ASPH ‘Edition 0.95’ for $ 24,995. The Edition 0.95 is already a limited run version of the ‘standard’ $ 11,000 version of the lens, that comes finished in Leica’s new anodized high-gloss black instead of black paint.

There are only 95 of the ‘Edition 0.95’ lenses worldwide, which have unpainted engravings, but it isn’t clear how many Prototype B models exist. Needless to say, we’d hope there are fewer than 95.

The store’s website says that this specific model has the words ‘Prototype B’ in white paint on its underside, and that it will come with a matte black lens cap instead of the usual glossy one. Despite the store only having one example of this lens, thrill seekers can still add ten or more to their virtual shopping basket.

Leica Noctilux-M 50mm f0.95 ASPH. “Edition 0.95” Prototype B

The Noctilux 0.95 Edition is one of the most unique noctilux lenses ever to roll off Leica’s production lines in Wetzlar. Built to resolve past the capabilities that are known in any other fast primes or even the faculties of human vision, the Noctilux is a legendary benchmark of photographic optical engineering. This special “0.95 Edition” is limited, respectively, to 95 units world wide and stands visual representation of the elegantly unique images the Noctilux creates. Featuring the same optical design as the regular Noctilux 50mm 0.95 ASPH this special edition has an added bit of elegance. The exterior of the “0.95 Edition” features Leica’s newly developed high-gloss anodized aluminum surface. The markings on the lens are left unpainted except one, the 0.95 f-stop mark.

This specific lens is a prototype of this already rare blend of Leica and S.T. Dupont craftsmanship. This could very well be one of the most collectible 0.95 Noctilux’s on the market today.
