Canon UK announces EF-M 55-200mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM for EOS M

Canon UK has announced the EF-M 55-200mm f/4-6.3 IS STM, a compact telephoto zoom for the EOS M mirrorless system. Canon claims the new lens offers high-end optical performance, a ‘near-silent’ stepping motor and a 3.5-stop optical image stabilization system. Providing an 88-320mm equivalent range on the EOS M, it’s the fourth lens in the series, priced at €389.99/£329.99 with availability (at least in Europe) in July.

Canon Japan announces Digital Photo Professional and EOS Utility updates

A press release that appeared on Canon Japan’s website today indicates that Canon will be upgrading its Digital Photo Professional and EOS Utility applications. According to a translation of the release, DPP will be a ‘significant’ upgrade and will be available free as of June 26th. Read more

Sigma announces US pricing and availability of dp2 Quattro

Sigma has announced US pricing and availability for its latest camera the dp2 Quattro. Featuring a newly-developed ~19.6 million pixel APS-C Foveon sensor and a completely new body design, the dp2 Quattro has a 30mm F2.8 lens (45mm equivalent) and will be available in the USA in early August at a street price of $ 999. Panasonic announces Lumix DMC-FZ1000 with 1″ sensor and fast lens

Panasonic has announced its Lumix DMC-FZ1000 superzoom camera, which features a 1″-type CMOS sensor and F2.8-4.0, 25-400mm equivalent lens. The sensor is not only the same size as on Sony’s Cyber-shot DSC-RX10 – it’s also the same resolution (20.1MP). The FZ1000 features both a fully articulating LCD as well as a high resolution OLED viewfinder. The FZ1000 is also capable of recording 4K video at a bit rate of 100Mbps, from which 8MP stills can be grabbed. The camera will be priced at $ 899 / £749.99.

Fake Chuck Westfall is an invented anti-hero and the surly voice behind the Fake Chuck Westfall blog, a site that pokes fun at Canon, Nikon and the photo industry in general. After maintaining secrecy for six years the man behind the account has revealed his identity, announcing that he’s moving on from the blog.

EyeEm announces festival and photo competition

The festival takes place in September in Berlin and the world-wide photo competition is now accepting submissions. Sony announces pricing and availability for Alpha 7S

Sony has announced pricing and availability information for its Alpha 7S 12MP mirrorless camera. The Alpha 7S is the first full-frame camera able to read out its entire sensor fast enough to output 4K 30p footage without the need for line skipping or pixel binning. It’s also not constrained by the AVCHD standard with bitrates of up to 50Mbps. The body will be available in July and sell for $ 2,499.99. Learn more

Tokina officially announces image stabilised 70-200mm F4 telezoom

Tokina has officially announced its first optically-stabilized lens – the AT-X 70-200mm F4 PRO FX VCM-S telephoto zoom. Designed for use with full frame SLRs, it has a ring-type ultrasonic motor for autofocus, and the voice coil motor-driven IS system promises three stops of stabilization. When used on APS-C / DX format SLRs, the lens will offer a 105-300mm equivalent zoom range. It will initially be available in Nikon mount, and will go on sale in Japan at the end of May for ¥150,000.

Sony announces Cyber-shot DSC RX100 III with EVF and F1.8-2.8 zoom

Sony has announced the Cyber-shot DSC RX100 III, the most advanced model yet in its 1″-type sensor range of compacts. The RX100 III gains a pop-up electronic viewfinder, a faster lens and the latest Bionz X processor. The RX100 III’s zoom now extends across a 24-70mm equivalent range, with a maximum aperture of F1.8-2.8. It also includes Wi-Fi and can run Playmemories Camera Apps. Video has also been upgraded – including full-sensor readout 1080p stored at up to 50Mbps in the XAVC S format. Learn more

Nikon announces J4 US pricing and waterproof accessory availability

Nikon has announced US pricing and availability of its J4 1-System mirrorless camera. Originally launched last month, the J4 features an 18MP CX-format sensor with an improved Hybrid AF system. The company has also announced a new WP-N3 waterproof case and SB-N10 waterproof Speedlight. The underwater housing allows the Nikon 1 J4 and S2 cameras to be taken to depths of of 45m (148 ft). The new Speedlight is waterproof up to 100m (328 ft). Learn more
