Microsoft announces Surface 3 tablet running full Windows

Microsoft has announced the latest model in its Surface line of tablets, the Surface 3. The big news here is that, unlike its predecessors which were running Windows RT, the new model comes with a full version of Windows 8.1. This means, like on the more expensive Surface Pro models, you can install and run any Windows application including Adobe Photoshop or Lightroom, making the Surface 3 a real alternative to a conventional PC. Read more

Reikan announces major update to FoCal AF tuning software

Reikan has announced a major update to its AF tuning software, FoCal. FoCal automates the process of calibrating your lens to your DSLR camera body, important – if not absolutely necessary – for critical focus when using fast lenses that yield shallow depth-of-field. Tenba announces Switch bags for mirrorless cameras and lenses

Tenba has unveiled a new customizable camera bag designed for mirrorless cameras and their accessories. The product is called Switch, a name derived from its interchangeable front flap. A total of three sizes are offered, all of which are now available through Tenba’s website. Read more

Elinchrom announces new ELB 400 portable flash system

Flash equipment manufacturer Elinchrom has launched a new portable flash system that promises faster recycling times, more bursts per charge and greater flexibility than the company’s current battery-powered kits. The Elinchrom ELB 400 is a 424Ws pack that can manage up to 350 full power flashes per charge and can recycle in 1.6 seconds after a maximum output burst. Read more

Kowa announces pricing for three Micro Four Thirds lens

Japanese optical manufacturer Kowa has released pricing for the three Micro Four Thirds lenses it first announced a year ago. The trio, Kowa Prominar MFT 12mm f/1.8, Prominar MFT 8.5mm f/2.8 and Prominar MFT 25mm f/1.8 are available now and will come in a choice of black, silver or green finishes. The lenses are all manual focus, and do not feature electrical contacts for communicating aperture or focus distance data to the camera. The company had them on show at the Broadcast Video Expo in London. Read more

Sigma announces pricing for 24mm Art and 150-600mm Comtemporary lenses

Sigma has attached prices to its very recently announced 24mm F1.4 Art lens, as well as the 150-600mm F5-6.3 super telephoto that appeared at Photokina. The full frame 24mm lens, which supports Canon, Nikon, and Sigma mounts, will be available next month at a price of $ 849. The 150-600mm – also designed for full frame bodies – will be priced at $ 1089 and will ship next month for Canon and Nikon mounts. Read more

Nikon has just refreshed its rugged camera lineup with the Coolpix AW130 and budget-friendly S33. The AW130 sports a 16MP CMOS sensor, 24-120mm equivalent zoom range, a 3” 920k dot OLED, 1080/30p video capture, Wi-Fi/NFC and built-in GPS. It can be submerged down to 30m/100 ft, is shockproof up to 2.1m/7 ft and freeze proof down to -10C/14F. Read more

Drone maker DJI announces support for Micro Four Thirds standard

Three companies joined the Micro Four Thirds system standard group this morning, including DJI, maker of both consumer and professional-level drones. JDC (GuangZhou) Optical Co., a small Chinese optics manufacturer, and Flovel Co., a Japanese optical company, both also announced support. Read more

Nikon announces Coolpix P610, L840, S9900, S7000 and S6900 compacts with emphasis on zoom
