Adobe test replaces $10/month Photography plan with 1TB $20/month option

Under a current test, some potential Adobe customers are no longer presented with the company’s $ 9.99 per month individual Photography plan, which includes access to Lightroom, Lightroom Classic, Photoshop, and 20GB of cloud storage. These customers now only have the option to subscribe to the more expensive $ 19.99 per month Photography plan, which includes 1TB, rather than 20GB, of cloud storage.

The change has only appeared for some customers, and as noted by PetaPixel, it’s possible to subscribe to the cheaper plan by directly contacting Adobe’s customer support. At this time, Adobe has only offered confirmation that it is conducting ‘a number of tests’ on its website, which may include displaying certain plan options to only some customers.

Though Adobe is remaining somewhat quiet about the change, the test hints at a potential future price hike for the Photography plan — namely the elimination of the cheaper, lower-storage option. Customers who want to lock in the lower rate (for now, at least) retain the option of purchasing a one-year Photography plan subscription for $ 120, though they may have to contact support to get that rate.

As with any test, it’s possible Adobe will scrap the change and keep its existing $ 9.99 per month option, but based on simple math, if even a little over half of customers don’t leave because of the change it’s still worth it for Adobe to bump up the price to $ 20 per month.

This Adobe quiz reveals what creative type you are

If you would describe yourself as a creative type and are into personality tests this fun little self-test that has been released by Adobe might just be what you needed to keep procrastinating for a little longer. In the Creative Types test you have to answer a series of slightly abstract questions in order to find out — you guessed it — what kind of creative type you are.

The 15 questions are binary and definitely a little quirky, for example ‘I tend to see life through the lens of systems or stories?’ or ‘Are you a ruler or a spring?’ Nevertheless your answers are used to compute a result which is one of eight creative types: the Artist, the Thinker, the Adventurer, the Maker, the Producer, the Dreamer, the Innovator, and the Visionary.

I am apparently a thinker, which means my creative strengths are ‘intellectual curiosity’ and an ‘ability to find and create meaning.’ My untapped potential is ‘bridging theory and practice” as well as “applying ideas in real life.’

I can’t deny I can see myself in some parts of the more detailed description of the thinker type, so even though this test is meant to be just a little bit of fun, there definitely seems to be some substance behind it. Loupedeck+ now supports Adobe Audition and Final Cut Pro X

Loupedeck+, the customizable post-production controller, has added Final Cut Pro X and Adobe Audition to the list of supported programs.

Last year alone, the Loupedeck+ gained support for Adobe Premiere Pro CC, Adobe After Effects CC, Adobe Photoshop CC, Capture One and Skylum Aurora HDR. Now, the device is even more capable with support for Apple’s professional video editing program, Final Cut Pro X, and Adobe’s audio editing program Audition.

With Final Cut Pro X, the Loupedeck is now able to color grade and color correct with its HSL color wheels, adjust/trim clips and scrub through the video timeline. The other keys and dials on the keyboard can also be customized to control more than 400+ additional functions and assign various keyboard shortcuts. Loupedeck+ configurations can also be imported and exported for syncing across multiple units.

In Adobe Audition, the Loupedeck+ can manage single track and multitrack projects with the ability to trim/nudge audio clips, add fades and effects with the click of a button, and adjust the volume for different channels with the scroll wheels.

The software update can be installed directly from the Loupedeck program if you already have it installed on your computer. Otherwise, Loupedeck version 2.6 can be downloaded from the Loupedeck website.

The Loupedeck+ controller unit is available from Loupedeck for $ 249 / 229€ with free worldwide shipping. Loupedeck also has a YouTube channel with various tutorials showing how to make the most of the Loupedeck+ controller.

Adobe adds new lens, camera support to Adobe Camera Raw, Lightroom in April updates

In addition to its updates to After Effects and Premiere Pro, Adobe has also updated Adobe Camera Raw, Lightroom CC and Lightroom Classic with updated lens profiles and additional camera support.

Adobe Camera Raw version 11.2.1, Lightroom version 2.2.1 and Lightroom Classic version 8.2.1 adds lens profile support for the following lens and its adapter combinations:

• Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 500mm f/5.6E PF ED VR
• Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 500mm f/5.6E PF ED VR + 1.4x
• Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 500mm f/5.6E PF ED VR + 1.7x
• Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 500mm f/5.6E PF ED VR + 2.0x

On the camera body front, Adobe has added support for the following camera systems:

• Canon EOS RP
• Panasonic LUMIX DC-FZ1000M2 (DC-FZ10002)
• Panasonic LUMIX DC-S1
• Panasonic LUMIX DC-S1R
• Panasonic LUMIX DC-ZS80 (DC-TZ95, DC-TZ96, DC-TZ97)

The latest updates can be downloaded directly from Adobe’s Creative Cloud desktop app for users with the compatible plans. If you don’t have the Creative Cloud Desktop app, you can download it from Adobe’s Creative Cloud website.

Skylum’s new Luminar Flex plugin brings AI features to Adobe apps, Photos on Mac

Skylum has announced Luminar Flex, a new plugin that enables photographers to leverage Luminar’s features while using editing software from other companies. Luminar Flex joins Luminar 3 to offer the company’s AI-powered features, including Accent AI and AI Sky Enhancer, as well as Looks, Foliage Enhancer, Details Enhancer and more.

In addition to offering the Luminar array of AI-powered features, the Luminar Flex plugin also brings Workspaces, the collections of filters designed for different types of photography. Skylum has introduced a new set of Workspaces specifically for Flex users, including Drone & Aerial, Film Lab, Expert, Black & White, Image Aware, Intensify, Relight and Color and Portrait.

The Luminar Flex plugin supports Adobe Photoshop, Photoshop Elements, Lightroom Classic, and Photos for macOS.

For Lightroom users, Luminar Flex brings support for Layers and Blending modes, enabling users to apply filters to layers, and both filters and textures to blending modes. Luminar Flex supports Smart Objects in Photoshop, as well. Ultimately, Skylum says it recommends Luminar Flex to photographers who want access to Luminar’s features as part of their existing workflow rather than transitioning to Luminar 3.

Skylum has given Luminar Flex its own development roadmap separate from the existing Luminar product. Both existing Luminar 3 and Luminar 2018 product owners will get Luminar Flex for free in their accounts starting April 4. For everyone else, the new plugin costs $ 59 / €59 / £54.

Adobe After Effects gets Content-Aware Fill, more in latest Creative Cloud updates

With the annual NAB media show coming up, Adobe has rolled out its spring update for the Creative Cloud video and audio apps, including Premiere Pro, After Effects, Audition, and Character Animator.

After Effects now comes with a new Content-Aware Fill function for video which works pretty much in the same away as the still image version in Photoshop. Users can select an object in the footage that they want removed and Content-Aware Fill does the job automatically, filling in the background.

Premiere Pro now features a new Freeform Project panel that lets you organize clips into select shots, making it easier to build and visualize project ideas. In addition text and graphics alignment is made easier through rulers and guides as well as guide templates that can be shared between After Effects and Premiere Pro. Adobe has also managed to speed up mark tracking. The company says this will make color and effects workflows more efficient. H.264 and HEVC encoding has been optimized for smoother playback in Premiere Pro and After Effects.

In After Effects users have now a an Expressions Editor at their disposal. It was designed with advanced users in mind, for examining code visually and comes with features such as syntax highlighting, line numbers, matching brace highlighting, and code folding.

In Character Animator puppet rigging has been improved to give more personality to characters and new Twitch live-streaming triggers allow for enhanced livestream performances, allowing viewers to engage with characters using real-time costume changes, dance moves, gestures, and poses.

Adobe Lightroom February update adds AI Enhance Details feature, HDR and HDR Panos

Adobe has updated Lightroom CC, Lightroom Classic CC, and Adobe Camera Raw with a new AI-powered feature called Enhance Details. The feature is made possible by Sensei, Adobe’s artificial intelligence and machine learning platform, and it works on nearly any raw image file to improve fine detail and color rendering, as well as resolving issues that some users with Fujifilm X-Trans cameras have reported.

The new Enhance Details feature utilizes a convolutional neural network (CNN) that was ‘extensively trained,’ according to Adobe, to deal with issues like zippering and false colors while improving the overall quality of fine details. The feature ‘works well’ on X-Trans and Bayer raw mosaic files, which can have their resolutions increased by up to 30%. Adobe digs into the technical details here.

In addition to the Enhance Details feature, Adobe has updated Lightroom CC for Windows and Mac with new HDR, Pano, and HDR Pano merge tools, histogram clipping indicators, and a Target Adjustment tool. The HDR and Pano features support both raw and non-raw images, though the company points out that merged raw files retail the adjustment benefits inherent to the file type.

The HDR and HDR Pano tools are best used with a camera’s auto exposure bracketing mode, which captures images with varying exposure. Lightroom automatically merges the images for HDR and, in the case of panoramas, automatically adjusts alignment and corrects distortion. These features are joined by the Target Adjust Tool for precisely controlling an image’s tonality and color, as well as the histogram clipping indicators.

As far as mobile is concerned, the update enables users to create ad-hoc photo shares on Lightroom CC for iOS. Finally, Lightroom Classic users received improved Nikon camera tethering stability and performance. The updates are available now.

Some MacBook Pro owners report speaker damage due to Adobe Premiere Pro audio bug

Some MacBook Pro owners have reported experiencing physical damage to their laptop speakers while using Adobe Premiere Pro. Based on existing reports, the bug appears to impact both Premiere Pro CC 12.0.1 and 12.0.2 users, but the consequences of the problem may ultimately fall on Apple’s side, as software shouldn’t be able to physically damage hardware speakers.

According to online reports, the problem impacts the new MacBook Pro models and arises while users are editing audio settings. One impacted user reported using Adobe Premiere 2019 and, while adjusting settings, being blasted with ‘a loud distorted noise that hurt even my ears.’

The noise allegedly caused the MacBook Pro’s speakers to become ‘unusable.’ Due to the number of components that must be replaced when repairing the damaged speakers, one 2018 MacBook Pro user was quoted a $ 600 repair fee by an Apple Store Genius Bar in Canada.

The Premiere Pro audio bug has been experienced by at least one user while wearing headphones, but they weren’t damaged as a result, according to the user. Adobe allegedly instructed one user to disable the MacBook Pro’s microphone within Premiere Pro under the ‘Preferences > Audio Hardware > Default Input’ menu, but some users report experiencing the audio issue even after troubleshooting.

Adobe gives Behance a facelift with improved profile and project pages

To kick off the new year on the right foot, Adobe has announced an update to its Behance social creative platform. The update includes a redesigned profile page, customizable banners and an updated project page.

The updated profile now includes a larger cover image to highlight prominent work, a cleaner layout and an improved sidebar that better features various statistics, links to other social networks and an accompanying bio. When a visitor hovers over the individual projects important information is displayed on top of the thumbnail.

The new banner image takes a design element seen on other social networks including Facebook and Twitter. The process is as simple as selecting an image as the banner and positioning it so it’s framed as it’s intended to be seen. Behance has a full guide on banner images, but the TL;DR is the optimal size is 3200 x 410 pixels — not exactly a common ratio.

The updated project pages now show images fullscreen and provide a Lightbox-style effect that keeps the media front and center. Project and creator information is displayed at the top of the page while sharing, following and the ‘Appreciate’ button are displayed to the right of the image.

Adobe acquired Behance in December 2012 and has since integrated it into its various Creative Cloud applications.

Adobe Camera Raw update brings support for latest mobile devices, Nikon Z6 and more

Adobe has released the December update for its Camera Raw plug-in that allows you to edit and import Raw image files in Adobe applications, such as Photoshop, Lightroom Classic CC, Lightroom CC, Photoshop Elements, After Effects, and Bridge.

The list of newly supported cameras is heavily populated with smartphones and mobile devices. Apple latest iPhones XS, XS Max and XR are on the list as well as the company’s 2018 iPad Pro models. In addition you’ll now also be able to use Camera Raw with Raw files from Google’s Pixel 3 models, the Huawei P9 Lite, LG G7 ThinQ and the Samsung models Galaxy Note 9 and Galaxy S6/S6 Edge.

Camera models include Nikon’s Z6 mirrorless camera and D3500 DSLR as well the Leica M10-D and P, in addition to a bunch of compact cameras. For a full list of supported cameras head to the Adobe Support Website.

If you have an older version of an Adobe application that is not compatible with the latest version of Camera Raw you can still get Raw support for your camera through the free Adobe DNG converter.
