A while back I wrote about the Capture Camera Clip System by those crazy guys over at Peak Design. The guys started their company with KickStarter, which I’m certain you’ve all heard about? Well, one of the feedback items they received on the Capture device (which I still use every time I shoot) was that maybe some people would feel more secure using it if they had some sort of strap attached, like a safety belt that you could also use as a neck strap, wrist strap and a sling strap. The criteria for Peter and his ping pong winning team was that the strap had to be versatile, quick connecting and most of all it had to add a great deal of ‘safe’ for your camera. Well, they’ve only gone and done it!
Peak Design bring you the new Leash and Cuff!
I was lucky enough to play ping pong with Adam of Peak Design just yesterday – he thrashed me! – but as sweet consolation, he also let me bring home the prototype unit to try out. This strap does everything it says on the label, so to speak! It’s inexpensive and sturdy and will be along with me for a ride when I shoot a wedding in Kyneton tomorrow.

The best thing about my timing of this post is that you can still jump on their KickStarter project for the leash and cuff, and get yourself one at less than retail (I think it’s about close to half of what they’re going to cost you when they hit the streets!)

Here’s the KickStarter video for your information, and there’s a great video on their KickStarter page with more info, too.
Check it out on their Kick Starter page!
We will have a full review for you in the coming weeks, but initial impressions and judging by the uptake on their KickStarter page, I’d say get one – quick.

Fujifilm has announced it is delaying the introduction of its XF 14mm F2.8 prime lens by a month so it can concentrate production on the XF 18-55mm F2.8-4 R LM OIS. The 14mm (21mm equivalent) prime lens is the first in the X-mount lineup to feature a pull-back focus ring that engages manual focus and reveals distance markings to allow use of its depth-of-field scale. It will now start to become available from late January 2013. Meanwhile we’ve been shooting with the 18-55mm zoom and will include a gallery of images along was an expanded XE-1 preview later this week.

Just Posted: Our review of the Tamron 18-270mm F/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD, prepared in partnership with DxOMark. In the last of our recent mini-series examining superzoom lenses for SLRs, we take a look at how Tamron’s contender compares to its Sigma and Nikon counterparts that we reviewed recently. This type of all-in-one travel and ‘walkaround’ lens is enduringly popular, but how does this two-year-old design stand up against its brand-new competitors?

Smartphones aren’t just about catching grab-shots and applying heavy processing filters to cover up any flaws. As the cameras get better, processing to get the best out of those images becomes increasingly important. Perfectly Clear, a processing app for iOS devices, provides a host of tools to fine-tune your mobile photography (or edit any photos when away from your computer). It even has a tool to correct the iPhone 5’s notorious purple flare. Click here to see what we thought.

Gift wrap can be just as important as the gift itself, enhancing the sense of anticipation and reflecting the personality and tastes of the giver. If you’re unsatisfied with the standard Santas, snowflakes and christmas trees found on the holiday gift wrap supplies at your local big box store, check out these 15 modern options. Some are even free templates for cool gift wrap designs, tags and 3D geometric gift boxes that you can download and print in minutes.

While this is technically ‘Halloween’ wrap, why not use it for other occasions, too? Minieco offers free printable gift wrap designs in ‘Pacman Ghost’ and ‘It’s Raining Again’, simple black-and-white graphic patterns that would definitely stand out under the tree.

Mustaches may be hip among the set who like things just because it’s ‘ironic’ to do so, but this wrapping paper printed with a variety of facial hair styles is fun for anyone.

Why buy (and wrap) a boring cardboard gift box when you could simply fold a cool 3D diamond shape out of the paper of your choice? Minieco has a template to make it yourself, and it’s perfect for small items like jewelry.

No matter the occasion, this wrapping paper fits – just find and outline the appropriate sentiment, whether it’s Merry Christmas, Happy Easter, Congratulations, Recover Soon or just ‘You Are the Best.’ Universal crossword puzzle paper comes with a key so you can find and circle the greeting you desire.

These geometric shapes, including tetrahedrons and cubes, are meant to be used as ornaments – but they could double as gift boxes. Get the templates at MiniEco.

Anchor-printed wrapping paper and gift tags are a lot more fun than garish store-bought Santas, though perhaps not as festive. Get these free printable templates at HeyLook.

This ikat-print wrapping paper by Pawling is so simple, yet so beautiful.

If you prefer festive seasonal designs, Hemlock Printers’ set of double-sided holiday wrapping paper is a playful modern option.

Plain old brown kraft paper looks a lot more interesting when you add some basic designs with a silver sharpie. It’s easy and cheap, and the result is clean and modern.

Treeo uses FSC-certified paper to create their gift wrap and gift boxes, which means that no trees were harmed unnecessarily during the process of creating their products. These gift boxes, shaped like purses, are an interesting twist on the conventional rectangular or square design.

If you have any type of wood veneer laying around, take a cue from Corinna Wraps and use it to cut out shapes and paste them to your wrapped gifts in custom designs of your choice.

Meticulously hand-drawn designs adorn the boutique wrapping paper by Loop, which is printed on FSC-certified and recycled paper using soy ink.

Sometimes the simplest, most rustic wrapping job is the most elegant. Design Sponge demonstrates how to pretty up some brown kraft paper with branches, pine cones, raffia and a paper tag.

Two designs available from Urban Bird and Co, in black-and-white arrows and tree shapes, illustrate how easy it is to transform kraft paper with stamps. Buy it pre-made on Etsy, or make your own using stamps procured from craft stores.

Too busy to think about creative gift wrapping, but not crazy about the options at your local big box stores? A number of Etsy sellers, like Once Upon Supplies, offer ‘gift wrap kits’ containing ribbon, twin, tags, stickers and other decorative accents in matching color-coordinated sets.

This is the live view on my Nikon D90 as its hooked up to a decent telescope, so the focal length of the lens is 1000. This is as the sun sets through some clouds around 8:15 pm in Carrollton, Tx. You can see the planet Venus as it passes across the sun, also some sun spots are visible.
127 Film Format – “The format was introduced by Kodak in 1912, along with the “Vest Pocket Kodak” folding camera, as a compact alternative to larger portable cameras using 120. The folding “127s” were in fact smaller than most 35 mm cameras today. The 127 format made a comeback during the 1950s as the format of choice for small inexpensive cameras such as the Brownie and Satellite, and continued in wide use until surpassed by the 126 film and 110 film “Instamatic” cartridges” en.wikipedia.org Video produced by Michael Raso / Film Photography Podcast Internet Radio Show Listen to this show: Film Photography Podcast Episode 24 / December 15, 2010 filmphotographypodcast.com Launched in October of 2009, the Film Photography Podcast is a 90 minute, bi-weekly Internet radio program, exploring a wide range of topics relevant to the experienced and aspiring photographer using film as a medium.
