Seminar Class, Art 335: Studio Theory & Practice, created a public art project. on the quad. Working with archival images and texts, the students developed these stories into full fledged audio-visual presentations that were projected onto Pardee Hall. There was also live music at the event, which took place on May 3, 2011.

Videos were projected through some windows in Pardee Hall for the event.

"Atmosphère, atmosphère, est-ce que j’ai une gueule d’atmosphère?" is Arletty’s famous quote in the 1938 movie, Hôtel du Nord.
At OCAD’s Nuit Blanche, the public will glide into a surrealistic milky world where clouds, floating elements and projections on screens interact in a spatial Atmosphere in the heart of a foggy night.
Meanwhile, back at the ranch on Earth cows are grazing…

Lens reviews return: results and methodology explained

31 Oct

lensreviews.png

We’re delighted to be able to announce the re-introduction of lens reviews. In partnership with DxO Labs, we’ve re-developed the way the data is collected and how it’s presented, so we’ve prepared an extensive guide to our testing methodology and the revised lens widget. The collaboration with DxO means we’ll be able to provide data for more lenses than previously possible, so have a read to see what those results mean and how they were achieved.

Just posted: Our review of Nikon’s latest superzoom for its DX format SLRs, the AF-S DX Nikkor 18-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR. In the first of our new series of lens reviews produced in partnership with DxOMark, we take a look at the longest-range zoom currently made for any interchangeable lens camera system. By current standards it’s large and heavy for its class, and expensive too, but does its imaging performance make this all worthwhile? Read our review to find out.

the story takes us in a dreamlike world where life is governed by cycles. Living beings born of cocoons and make couple. Everyone has a dial on his forehead that defines their shelf life, but a day something unexpected will happen… Dans un monde onirique, où la vie est régie par des cycles, les êtres vivants naissent de cocons et forment des couples. Mais quelque chose d’inattendu va se produire.

Custom Workspaces in Photoshop

31 Oct

Ps custom workspaces opener

I like Photoshop to open and “look the way I want to see it”. But sometimes ‘the way I want to see it’ is different than others. I’m fickle – but thankfully Photoshop plays nice with me – the secret is its Workspaces. These Workspaces let me preconfigure my Photoshop screen for various scenarios, to save them so I can reuse them, and to put everything back in its place when I mess them up.

If this sounds like something you could use – here’s how to give your Photoshop window a custom look with workspaces.

The first thing I do is to set up Photoshop the way you want it to look and that means hiding all the panels you don’t want to see and displaying those that you do.

Then arrange them on the screen exactly the way you want to see them. For me, I prefer my toolbar to be in two columns rather than one long one. I like my layers and paths palettes visible but not much else.

Once the screen is organized the way you want it to look, from the dropdown list in the top right corner choose Essentials > New Workspace and type a name for the workspace. Select the options for keyboard shortcuts and menus select and click Save.

Ps custom workspaces 1

You can repeat this process, if desired, and create other workspaces. You might make one for photo-editing, one for collage, one for illustration or one for videoing depending on your own personal needs.

In future you can set up your screen by choosing the workspace of your choice from the dropdown list.

Ps custom workspaces 2

If you move things around and things go a bit crazy it is easy to reset a workspace back to how it was when you last saved it.

To do this, first make sure you are viewing the workspace to reset and then open the Workspace menu and choose Reset .

Ps custom workspaces 3

Likewise you can return to Photoshop’s default workspace anytime by selecting Essentials then click Reset Essentials.

Ps custom workspaces 4

And one last word on workspaces…
If you want to see what’s new in Photoshop CS6 click the New in CS6 workspace and you can see what is new in Photoshop. Open a menu and any new options in it will show as blue on the menu.

YT3D Fujifilm Finepix Real 3D W3 – first test of Fuji W3 ( yt3d:enable=true )

31 Oct

First day with Fujifilm Finepix Real 3D W3. Filming my 2yr old daughter having fun at the playground in 3D, that’s a first for her too, althought she probably didn’t realize that. Somehow I never got round to taking my twin DSLR rig out with the kids as by the time I would have assembled and aligned it, she’d do something naughty because of the lack of attention. So anyway I was really looking forward to having a portable 3D HD device like to W3 was announced at 720p 3D. The camera’s build feels nice and robust, and althought I can’t compare it to the W1 as I never had it, this is actually alright. Being used to all manual options on a DSLR I was missing the freedom a bit, but I could get over it, unlike the tiniest field of view this camera has even at 16:9 setting for HD video, and only for 7MP stills, the 10MP stills are done in 2:3 aspect at even worse FOV. Ok, now the editing part. I have done some tests of automaticly aligning frame grabs and this is what I was getting: yfrog.com So I don’t think my cam’s manufactory lens alignment is too bad, but if yours is better of worse, send me a link to your results. This of coure requires either a floating window, which is what I have done in this video, or scaling up back to 720 which I don’t recommend as the video quality is really, and I mean really poor already when coming out of the cam. I could’t believe how poor it was, so I’ve checked some other videos I done with twin Vado HD’s – and they’re two years old – they look

Photographer Marcel Lammerhirt – Extreme Sports Photography

31 Oct

Sports photographer Marcel Lammerhirt uses a variety of flash and remote cameras to capture extreme sports photos at different angles and speeds. Extreme sports photographer Marcel Lammerhirt, a member of the SanDisk Extreme Team, loves shooting photos with numerous cameras at the same time. He invests most of his time in flash and remote cameras, and loves photographing a number of sports to capture that specific moment in time. With extreme sports, such as motocross and cliff diving, there is only one chance to grab a shot, since the stunts are often difficult and dangerous. The speed of SanDisk memory cards allows Marcel to continuously shoot in burst mode without lagging behind due to unwanted buffer times. He enjoys taking photos from many angles, so he often sets up several cameras, such as an overhead camera and sequence cameras. SanDisk cards let him use remote cameras all day without having to switch out cards. When he arrives home at the end of the day, he is confident that all his extreme sports images are intact and ready for processing.
