A Shoot for Love Workshop~

10 Jul

A couple weekends ago we did a little Shoot For Love workshop just outside a little town in Utah called Park City.  It was a great time, lots of fun, a couple more blog posts about it are to come but they will live on www.shootforlove.com.

At the workshop I took some photos, the attendees got to watch.  It was fun.  It got cold at times, especially for one of the models.

Thank you to Heather, Shay and especially thank you to Samantha.   For obvious reasons!

Assisted by: Steven Wood, Tiffany Sanchez, Stuart Hackworth, Lindsey LaJeunesse, Dave Brewer… and of course Mr. Wood’s cell phone.  A casualty of the lake that unfortunate day.  Well worth it though, mainly because it wasn’t my cell phone or my fault.  :-)

TGIF: Here’s Your Weird Al BTS Video

10 Jul

I love Weird Al Yankovic. I also love behind-the-scenes photo shoot videos. So how can I not love a Weird Al Yankovic BTS vid?

The video, after the jump, features music form the album. It’s Weird Al parodying Lady Gaga Weird Al parodying Lady Gaga ripping off Madonna…
__________

L.A.-based photographer Robyn Von Swank shoots a lot of promotional materials for film, TV, etc. She shot Weird Al knowing the photos would be cut out and dropped into a composite. So along with the obligatory Big Octa key and soft ring fill, she edge-lit Weird Al & co. with a couple of strip lights for nice, crisp edges. Profoto lights all around, with nice big flags to keep those strip lights from screwing up her contrast.

Weird Al, of course, needs no introduction. And you can sample the parody-ladened Alpocalypse, here.

Leica launches M9-P professionally targeted rangefinder

10 Jul

Leica has announced the M9-P, a variant of its 18MP full-frame M9 rangefinder camera. The P version gains the sapphire crystal LCD glass previously seen on the Leica M8.2 but now featuring improved anti-reflective coatings for improved visibility in difficult lighting conditions. In order to give an understated appearance, the M9-P omits the traditional Leica red dot and M9 designation from the front of the camera, instead the Leica name is engaved in the metal top-plate in the company’s traditional script.

Downtown Story Part I – My Thesis Short Film By Nikon D90

Downtown Story Part I – My Thesis Short Film By Nikon D90 HI Thk u all for ur watching! First! I have to tell u that my english is not good 🙂 Um…for using d90,i think i have many problems such as we cant move the camera fast because d90’s censor is not good enough to capture fast movement, and… u can’t take a long time for one shot because the camera will auto shutdown lv mode when it hot! I shot my film by 25fps and u can go to control it in the menu.U have to lock expossure when u shot because the camera will auto expossure in lv mode (i couldn’t remember how to do this and if u wanna know i will find information for u in the next time)and it will be better if u use MANUAL LENS because after u lock expossure u can change f.stop on ur lens again. The good thing in d90 is the picture is very like we shot it by film !!! We can get filmlook from this cam ! PS sorry again for my english

Security Freebies

08 Jul

Simple security: In last year’s roundup of best free stuff, the beta version of Microsoft Security Essentials 2 impressed us. Since then, Microsoft has officially released the utility to the public, and our admiration has only grown. With its combined antivirus, antispyware, and firewall protection, Security Essentials provides a solid layer of protection against the most common threats without hobbling your PC or nagging you with annoying update reminders.

File killer
: When you delete files from your PC via the Windows Recycle Bin, Windows marks them as erased and hides them from view; eventually it fills the drive space they occupied with newly created or downloaded content. To get rid of data right away, use Eraser, a free file-deletion utility that works with DoD-grade algorithms to overwrite deleted data repeatedly until it’s practically unrecoverable.

Facebook defense
: Facebook is fun, but it’s also rife with malicious links that can damage your PC and compromise your private data. Defensio for Facebook intercepts those threats and alerts you before they can do any harm.

Software updater: Now that almost every PC application can access the Internet, dozens of potential security holes lie scattered across our systems. Secunia Personal Software Inspector helps mitigate the risk by searching for important security patches for every program on your PC. When I ran it, PSI found seven outdated programs on my machine, and pointed me straight to the download links for the updates I needed. Suddenly I feel much more secure.

USB protection: How much do you trust the USB drive that your friend wants to plug into your PC? If you use Panda USB Vaccine, you don’t have to take anything on faith. This simple utility automatically neutralizes common flash-drive threats to keep malware from making the jump to your hard drive.

Password keeper: You want to get to the Websites you use without stopping to recall a dozen unique passwords every day, but using the same password at multiple sites is a good way to compromise your data. Password Safe gives you the best of both worlds by storing all your logins and dropping them into the sites you visit as needed. As a result, you can maintain as many different, complex passwords as you need while having to remember only one master password to rule them all.

Any suggestions, ideas? Feel free to comment on this article!
