Avatar – XD 3D – Screenshots Promo

18 May

Here are some live action screen shots from a clip from Avatar in XD 3D, the worlds premier 3D conversion format, bettered only by the 3D original. Put these bold claims to the test, turn off the lights, watch with red-blue 3D glasses in HD fullscreen, and move back. I took a whole day to do the 3D video clip, it is spectacular beyond belief on an HDTV @1080p, due to copyright all I can show is this promo screenshot video…enjoy it…I certainly did. If the studio is looking for a 3D release of Avatar that works in anaglyph on a normal HDTV…this is it….it would be my pleasure 🙂

Photographers, Support Japan

18 May

My friend, Jared Polin of FroKnowsPhoto.com has decided to do something himself to help people in Japan after they lost everything in the recent tragic earthquake and subsequent tsunami devastation. It’s simple and it is effective – Jared has donated 0 out of his own pocket and he’s designed a t-shirt from which the profits will go directly to Red Cross for their JAPAN EARTHQUAKE AND PACIFIC TSUNAMI

We all watched as the events unfolded in Japan, and I for one sat bewildered, wondering ‘what can I do to help‘ I was actually in Thailand at the time, right on (one of) the beaches where the horrific 2004 Tsunami struck – there were still remnants of destroyed buildings along the beach, so it was as real as it could have been to me, without actually being there. Still, I didn’t come up with an idea to raise some funds for a charity, and Jared has. I hope you will join Jared in supporting where we all can.

Just posted: Our in-depth Fujifilm X100 review

18 May

Just Posted: Our in-depth Fujifilm X100 review. The X100 has been an object of fascination and desire amongst photography enthusiasts since it was unveiled at Photokina last September. The camera marries elegant retro looks with an advanced viewfinder and a well-respected sensor. A 35mm equivalent F2 lens completes this modern interpretation of the classic fixed-lens rangefinder concept. However, despite the undeniable attraction of the camera, it won’t come as shocking news to hear that it’s not an unqualified success. As a result, we’ve taken a little longer than usual over our review, partly because it’s a camera that requires some time to really appreciate it. Mainly though, we wanted to rigorously assess which drawbacks prove to be truely significant after extensive real-life use, and which ones you can be charmed into forgiving.

Battle of the Bokeh: Nikon 85mm f/1.4 D vs Sigma 85mm f/1.4

18 May

After a couple of weeks without a Battle of the Bokeh, we’re back with some more bokehlicious action. In this episode, we’re comparing the bokeh quality of the recently reviewed Sigma 85mm f/1.4 (www.youtube.com which we thought was quite decent for the money with a Nikon 85mm f/1.4 D, a true classic portrait lens. The Nikkor lens is now superseded by something more modern but it still holds its own and at a decent price. Which one has the better bokeh?
