Canon has announced it has developed a 120 megapixel 29.2 x 20.2mm APS-H CMOS sensor – the same size used in its EOS-1D series of professional DSLRs. The sensor, for which Canon has announced no production plans, has a pixel count nearly 7.5 times larger than the company’s highest pixel count commercially available sensor. It offers full HD recording (using 1/60th of its surface area) and can deliver 9.5fps continuous shooting. This follows a 50 million pixel sensor of similar format the company developed in 2007.

As well as movies it gains Live View shooting, a wider ISO range ( 100-3200 expandable to 12800) and a host of small revisions. The camera will be available soon at a retail price of £579.99 / €599 with the 18-55mm VR lens. 1 June, 2010 – The Best Noise Reduction Plug-In Yet!
The world is a lot less noisy than it used to be. The photographic world, that is.
In the days of film, ISO 400 was noisy in B&W, and in colour ISO 800 grain looked like golf balls. The early days of digital were not that much better.
But in recent years we’ve grown accustomed to ISO 400 as being almost noise free, and some pro cameras now allow shooting at over ISO 100,000.
But there are still a lot of times that noisy images need to be cleaned up, and a new king of the hill appears to have emerged, in the form of Topaz Labs DeNoise 4.1. Mark Segal‘s exclusive review is now online.

The Luminous Landscape – What’s New
8 June, 2010 – Lightroom 3 Released
Adobe has today (finally) released Lightroom 3. You can download it from the Adobe on-line store for your country. It should also show up at retailers shortly as well.
Ian Lyons has his usual excellent summary online of what’s new in LR3.
Jeff Schewe and I have just completed filming our exhaustive live video tutorial. It will run close to ten hours in length and will drill down into every aspect of how the program works, as well as illustrate best practices. It will be the most detailed and in-depth tutorial on Lightroom 3 available. Look for it here in the weeks ahead.
Oh yes, and our multi-hour tutorial video on Capture One should become available here very soon as well.

Steezy Marie for Marker Bindings
The amazing folks at Whitney Advertising put together an idea for a national ad campaign that I fell in love with immediately!
Marker USA has a line of ski bindings called ‘The Royal Family’ with product names like The Jester, The Duke and The Baron…
Their idea?
What if we combined Marie Antoinette with a member of todays steezified-culture… All the vintage styling but with a twist, ski hat and goggles. The first character to populate this world would have to have a name… and why not call her Steezy Marie?
There’s a bonus to this ad too! A very high-tech bonus. You see that colorful square icon near the bottom right? Download the TagReader app (it’s free) on your iphone. Scan the icon (Yes, it will work on the screen – at least it does on mine) and you can watch some sweet behind the scenes video of the shoot!
The Models!
Credits
Thank you so much to the entire team, especially the two photographer friends of mine that got suckered into modeling with ZERO notice from me! I make no apologies for doing what I had to do to get a couple guy-extras.

*I should have kept better notes but we had a mini-disaster during setup when I realized that a much needed lens was not inside my photography bag. The situation was fixed (thanks again Dave) without the clients even noticing… but the hiccup left little time for much note-taking on my part. :-/
IrfanView – Create Desktop Shortcut and Keyboard Hotkey if Missing
Make IrfanView easier to access by creating desktop and keyboard shortcuts.
If you often view and modify images with IrfanView you may find a Desktop shortcut convenient. When installing the application this shortcut may have been created; if missing, you can add it back. Plus, the Desktop shortcut can contain a keyboard hotkey to open IrfanView from anywhere – and this can be modified.
