FUNDAMENTALS (Photo Shooting & Making Of)

13 Oct

HOMEPAGE: www.jakobkasimir.com FACEBOOK www.facebook.com FACEBOOK GROUP: www.facebook.com TWITTER: twitter.com GOOGLE PLUS: plus.google.com “Fundamentals” is a game between background and foreground, between beauty and dirt. On the one side you have a beautiful model on the other side different layers of special materials. Background becomes foreground and foreground becomes background. Those two things go so well with each other even though they are so different. As well as the impressive background is not stealing any relevance from the model. Every background is real and no editing. Every model is exactly chosen for the right background. The colors of the background are: Fundamental colors: Red/Yellow/Blue Secondary colors: Brown/Green/Turquoise/ Pink/Purple/Orange Other colors: Black/White/Gold/Silver “Fundamentals” also gets subdivided into two main parts: Backgrounds and Food. I created for every color two photographs, one you can eat and one you don’t. The model, makeup, light, shades, temperature, etc. is exactly balanced with to background. So welcome to the fundamentals…

Astrophotography Timelapse – My First Night Out

12 Oct

www.learningdslrvideo.com I have always been a sucker for really well done astro timelapse from people like Tom Lowe, TSO Photography and Randy Halverson. This past weekend I drove up into the mountains for a camping weekend with my oldest daughter. Every so often my wife and I like to split up our girls so we can get some one on one time with each girl. I knew we would get a chance to talk and tell ghost stories around the campfire. My photography goal for this trip was to try my first time lapse of the stars, I had ideas of grandeur of quality equal to Tom Lowe and others, and I was even more excited to try after I watched Tom Guilmette’s awesome BTS video about Timefest. When I packed up the car in the morning there was not a cloud in the sky, however as we drove up to RMNP the clouds started forming. The previous weekend with my other daughter I got rain out at night and didn’t want a repeat performance from Mother nature. By the time we setup up camp it started to drizzle. It rained on our hike but after that the clouds started to break up giving me some hope that we would have a clear night sky. Long’s Peak The object of the timelapse was Long’s Peak. Years ago I climbed this 14256′ mountain with a friend in what turned out to be the nasty night camping ever, instead of starting out at 2am to start the hike with a day pack and head lamp on, my friend and I decided to take heavy packs in the afternoon and camp in the boulder field just below the sharp cliffs you see

I choose to do this to help illustrate the different feel of the work portion of the shoot and the polished looked of the cast & set. **Prior to the shoot I was asked to

Picture Perfect: Rob Hornstra

03 Oct

In this episode of Picture Perfect, VBS goes on assignment with Dutch photographer Rob Hornstra to Sochi, Russia as he continues to captures the city as it exists before it is thrust into the international spotlight as host of the 2014 Winter Olympics. This time around, Hornstra is photographing lounge singers in restaurants, cabarets and hotel lobbies. An advocate for “slow journalism”, the Netherlands-based documentary photographer produces work over long periods of time, involving himself in the changes that occur over the breadth of years. His work is characterized by a stylized rawness, with a large dose of intrinsic engagement. In 2014, the Olympic Games will take place in Sochi, Russia. Never before have the Olympics been held in a region that contrasts more strongly with the glamour of the games. Just 20 kilometers away is the conflict zone Abkhazia. To the east, the Caucasus Mountains stretch into obscure and impoverished breakaway republics such as Cherkessia, North Ossetia and Chechnya. On the coast, old Soviet sanatoriums stand shoulder to shoulder with the most expensive hotels and clubs of the Russian Riviera. Hornstra and writer/filmmaker Arnold van Bruggen have joined together on The Sochi Project to document the changes in and around Sochi over the course of the next five years. The Sochi Project will be a dynamic mix of documentary photography, film and reportage about a world in flux; a world full of different realities within a small, but extraordinary

J Majik & Wickaman ft Dee Freer ‘In Pieces’ (OFFICIAL VIDEO) (Out Now)

28 Sep

Download on iTunes: bit.ly J Majik and Wickaman teamed up with Josh Cole, an award winning stills photographer, to bring you their new video for summer anthem ‘In Pieces’, which features rising star Dee Freer. Having begun his career as a hip-hop photographer, Josh now shoots advertising and fashion and is well known for his hard-hitting reportage work with subcultures and subjects including street gangs, gypsies, breakdancers and graffiti artists from across the globe. For the past 6 years, Josh has been shooting a personal project – ‘Physical Graffiti’ – about street dancers from around the world. As an extension of this project, Josh decided to return to Rwanda to shoot a film about the dancers there and in neighbouring Burundi. Josh first visited Rwanda to do a story for The Independent on his old friend Dicken Marshall, who went to Rwanda to start a ‘fair trade’ recording studio and record label, www.rafikirecords.com. Dicken then acted as producer on this film and introduced Josh to the best dancers in the region. The video to ‘In Pieces’ was shot in the most deprived and poorest parts of the country’s capitals, Kigali and Bujumbura. The idea of the film is to show the powerful energy that comes from personal hardship, which is a central theme of his work. ‘In Pieces’ is out now on Ministry of Sound Recordings. http www.twitter.com www.twitter.com www.facebook.com
