Canon 16-35mm F2.8L III real-world sample gallery

13 Dec

The Canon 16-35mm F2.8L II has been one of the most popular and sought after lenses in landscape photography thanks in part to its distinct and gorgeous sunstar. That said, the lens did have its fair share of issues. We took the updated version of the lens out for a spin to get a feel for its performance.

The Panasonic Lumix FZ2500 / FZ2000, the company’s followup to the popular FZ1000, comes with a whole new 24-480mm F2.8-4.5 lens in front of its 20MP 1″-type CMOS sensor. It also comes with a built-in neutral density filter, 4K video and 4K photo modes and Panasonic’s Depth-from-Defocus (DFD) technology for quick and accurate autofocus.

We’ve taken advantage of some rare sunny weather in the midst of this Seattle winter to put together a samples gallery from this stills and video superzoom – take a look.

06 Dec

The Canon EOS M5 comes stacked with features many enthuasists look for in a camera: a 24MP sensor with Canon’s Dual Pixel technology, built-in EVF, a tilting touchscreen and 7 fps burst shooting. We’ve been eager to test it ever since its Photokina launch, and have finally gotten our hands on production-ready models. The M5 has gone with us into the kitchen, over the hills and through the snow – and it turns out it can stand up to a little weather. Check out all of our samples via the link below.

Venus Laowa 12mm F2.8 Zero-D sample gallery

30 Nov

Chinese optics company Venus caused a stir when it announced a 12mm F2.8 lens with claims of almost zero rectilinear distortion. The lens is comparably small in its super wide-angle class, and its claims of little barrel distortion are pretty tantalizing. Senior DPR contributor Damien Demolder spent some time getting to know it – check out his images below.

Lensbaby Trio 28 real-world sample gallery

16 Nov

If Lensbaby’s dreamy signature look is eye candy, then the Trio 28 is its Neapolitan ice cream. Designed for mirrorless cameras, it puts three creative lenses in one place, offering the creative effects of the company’s Twist, Velvet and Sweet optics. Rotating the lens switches between the effects, so there’s no need to swap lenses or optics, but it does mean you’re stuck with a fixed F3.5 aperture. We’ve had a chance to take it out and about.

It’s finally here: Sigma 85mm F1.4 DG HSM Art sample gallery

The Sigma 85mm F1.4 Art is finally here, with units of the $ 1199 lens shipping now. The big question, almost as big as the lens itself: is it worth the wait? And, is it worth the weight? To find out, we wasted no time taking it out to shoot some portraits. Lots and lots of portraits.

Olympus E-M1 Mark II real-world samples gallery and Iceland gallery update

13 Nov

As Olympus’ top-end flagship, the OM-D E-M1 Mark II isn’t small for a Micro Four Thirds camera, but it’s built to be incredibly tough and has room for some impressive technology on the inside and abundant, customizable controls on the outside.

We soaked it at a frisbee match, cranked the ISO at a rock show, took it to the streets and the studio, and tried out the new High Res Shot mode (we even tried it with a live subject with questionable success). Take a look at how the camera’s handled a variety of situations as we continue to work through our forthcoming review.

We’ve also gotten preliminary Adobe Camera Raw support, and have updated our previous Iceland gallery with some new Raw conversions.
