Fujifilm, Sigma, and Pentax post firmware updates

Over the last few days a number of firmware updates have been posted. Fujifilm has new firmware for the following cameras: X-Pro1, X-E1, X-E2, and X100S. Firmware update gives Sony QX-series cameras more manual control

Sony has announced firmware upgrades that enhance the features of its QX-series ‘lens-style’ cameras, which clip on to the front of your smartphone. The update adds Full HD video recording and an expanded ISO range for both the QX10 and QX100, while the latter also receives a shutter priority mode. Sony’s latest PlayMemories Mobile app has more seamless photo browsing and dramatically improved performance on iOS devices. Click through for more.

Nikon firmware update breaks support for third-party batteries

Owners of some of Nikon’s entry and mid-range DSLRs are reporting that a recent firmware update broke support for their third-party batteries. The firmware update for the Nikon D3200, D3100, D5100, D5200 and CoolPix P7700 cameras claimed to report remaining charge more accurately for the EN-EL14a lithium-ion battery. However, on installing the update, some owners found their third-party batteries suddenly incompatible.

Olympus updates firmware for OM-D E-M1, XZ-2, and 12-50mm lens

Olympus has released firmware updates for its OM-D E-M1 mirrorless camera, XZ-2 enthusiast compact, and 12-50mm F3.5-6.3 lens. Version 1.1 for the E-M1 promises improved autofocus and image stabilisation operation, and better image quality in Live Bulb mode. Meanwhile version 1.3 for the XZ-2 should improve autofocus in low light. Click through for full details.

Fujifilm to update firmware for X-Pro1, X-E2, X-E1 and X100S (again)

Fujifilm has announced forthcoming firmware updates for its X-Pro1, X-E2 and X-E1 mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras, and for the X100S fixed-lens large sensor compact. Features promised include customizable Auto ISO, exposure preview in manual exposure mode, improved workflow for in-camera Raw conversion, and the ability to edit filenames in-camera. The update for the X-Pro1 will be available on 5th December; those for the X-E1, X-E2 and X100S on 19th December. Click through for full details.

Nikon has posted firmware updates for the following cameras: D3100, D3200, D5100, D5200, and P7700. More accurate detection of the remaining charge for the EN-EL14a rechargeable li-ion battery is the only fix. Get the update

Fujifilm updates X-system lens firmware for X-E2 compatibility

Fujifilm has updated the firmware for many of its X-system lenses to offer full compatibility with the recently-announced X-E2. The upgrades allow the lenses to work properly with the camera’s phase detection AF and, for XF optics, its Lens Modulation optimiser function. They apply to the 14mm F2.8, 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 OIS, 35mm F1.4, 55-200mm F3.5-4.8, 60mm F2.4 Macro, and XC 16-50mm F3.5-6.3 OIS lenses. Click through for the download link

Canon updates firmware for EOS 5D Mark III

Canon has released firmware version 1.2.3 for the EOS 5D Mark III, which fixes four bugs (including one in which the flash may not fire when the shutter is pressed) and adds the ability to adjust LCD brightness when an HDMI cable is connected. Canon updates firmware for EOS-1D X and EOS-1D C

Canon has announced upcoming firmware updates for its top-of-the-range SLRs, the EOS-1D X and video-optimised EOS-1D C. Version 2 for the EOS-1D X adds a range of additional autofocus settings, along with substantially improved Auto ISO options. It’ll be available to download in January 2014. Meanwhile the EOS-1D C gains improved audio recording, and support for aberration corrections with cinema EOS lenses. The update will be available from November, and requires the camera to be sent to an authorized Canon Factory Service Center.

Back from the dead: Fujifilm boosts X100 with major firmware upgrade

Following recent updates to the X-Pro1 and X-E1, Fujifilm has released a major upgrade to the X100, the original (now-discontinued) X-series model, which was announced back in 2010. Since its release, the X100 has benefitted from a series of major firmware improvements, and the latest – likely to be the last – offers faster startup time, and improvements to automatic and manual focus.
