Fujifilm updates X-Pro1 and X-E1 firmware for lens compatibility

Fujifilm has announced a set of firmware updates for its X-Pro1 and X-E1 mirrorless cameras. Versions 2.05 for the X-Pro1 and 1.06 for the X-E1 will be available to download on 25th June; they offer compatibility with lenses that don’t have aperture rings, and allow easier focus area selection when shooting with the eye-level viewfinder. The company has also pre-announced further updates (Versions 3.00 for the X-Pro1, and 2.00 for the X-E1) which promise to improve autofocus speed with existing XF lenses, and add the much-requested ‘focus peaking’ function to aid manual focus. These are due to be available for download on 23rd July.

Samsung releases significant firmware update for NX300

Samsung has released firmware version 1.2 for its NX300 interchangeable lens camera. The biggest improvement is autofocus quality, though Samsung has not disclosed what kind of improvement to expect. The update also adds new touchscreen features, a microphone sensitivity adjustment feature, auto image rotation, and a minimum shutter speed for Auto ISO. Several bugs are also fixed. Lytro unlocks Wi-Fi with firmware update, introduces iOS app

Lytro has released a firmware update that enables the Wi-Fi chips inside its 8GB and 16GB light field cameras. The San Fransisco-based company has also announced a new iOS companion app called Lytro Mobile, which allows you to browse images from the camera on an iOS smartphone or iPod Touch. Replicating some of the functionality of Lytro’s existing desktop app, the mobile app allows you to refocus and change the perspective of your images and share the ‘living pictures’ via social media. Click through for more details.

New firmware from Nikon, Olympus & Sigma for 1 Series, XZ-2 and DP models

Nikon, Olympus and Sigma have released firmware updates for the 1 System cameras, the Stylus XZ-2 and DP Merrill-series APS-C compact cameras. Nikon’s 1 System cameras have been updated to add support for the new 32mm F1.2 kens and continuous AF with the Nikon mount adapter FT1 and AF-S lenses, among other refinements. The Olympus Stylus XZ-2 has been updated for support with the new VF-4 electronic finder, and Sigma’s DP Merrill-series benefit from several performance and stability improvements. Panasonic updates 12-35mm F2.8 firmware to improve video stabilisation

Panasonic has issued a firmware update for its Lumix G X Vario 12-35mm F2.8 ASPH Power OIS fast standard zoom for Micro Four Thirds cameras (H-HS12035). Version 1.2 improves the stability of the optical image stabilisation during movie recording. It’s available to download now from the LUMIX customer support site – click through for the link.

Fujifilm releases X100S firmware 1.02, correcting OVF brightness bug

Fujifilm has announced the availability of new firmware for its X100S fixed-lens compact camera. Firmware version 1.02 corrects an issue where the framelines in the camera’s viewfinder did not automatically adjust brightness at ISO 1600 and higher. Fujifilm has also issued firmware updates for its ZS2000EXR, HS50EXR, F820EXR and F900EXR compacts. Click through for more details and links.

Canon firmware for 5D Mark III allows uncompressed video and AF at F8

Canon has released a firmware update for the EOS 5D Mark III with significant benefits for both stills and video shooters. Firmware version 1.2.1 allows uncompressed video output over the HDMI port as well as cross-type autofocus when working with a maximum aperture of F8. Nikon updates firmware for Coolpix P7700

Nikon has posted a firmware update for its Coolpix P7700 compact camera. Firmware 1.1 increases the accuracy of the P7700’s virtual horizon, increases shot-to-shot times in exposure bracketing mode and addresses an issue that prevented shutter speeds slower than one second for the second and subsequent shots when shooting with Auto bracketing set to Exposure bracketing. The update is available for immediate download from Nikon’s website. Pentax updates firmware for K-5 II/IIs DSLRs and Q mirrorless camera

Pentax has released firmware updates for its K-5 II, K-5 IIs DSLRs and Q mirrorless cameras. Firmware version 1.04 for the K-5 II and IIs improves overall stability and resolves an issue where some of the controls stopped working on the cameras’ status screens. The update Pentax Q firmware v1.12 resolves issues regarding one of its Smart Effect filters.
