Possibly the most innovative camera maker today is Fujifilm. From unique sensor designs, to unique viewing systems, Fuji is constantly exploring new ways to help photographers capture images. Now, with the soon-to-be-released Fuji X-T1 the evolving X system has reached a maturity of sorts. Our contributing editor, Nick Devlin, recently traveled to the US Southwest and Canadian Midwest with an X-T1, and gives the net’s first field report on this exciting new camera.

27 December, 2013 – Field Review – Zeiss Touit 12mm lens

 All of us at Luminous-Landscape hope you had a good holiday.  In less than a week we start a new year and you can count on new articles, reviews and videos as well as a new line up of workshops.

Legendary glass maker Zeiss has gotten a lot of attention in the last few years as they started to make lenses for the DSLR camera systems.  They didn’t miss a beat when it came to the APS-C sensor category either. Earlier this year they released two lenses with the family name of Touit. The two new lenses are a 12mm 2.8 and a 32mm 1.8 for the Fuji X system and the Sony NEX cameras.  Today’s article by István Nagy takes a closer look at the Zeiss Touit 12mm lens.  There are plenty of reviews of this lens out there but István takes a look at the lens in real world use. Getting Aerial: Mark di Suvero at Crissy Field

16 Sep

I’ve been tinkering with aerial photography and videography since NAB in April. Unfortunately where I live the wind can make the experience risky. Still this past weekend I decided to brave the America’s cup crowds at Crissy Field and get an alternate view of the Mark di Suvero sculpture exhibit. I look forward to getting a little more air time the next time the winds die down.

Micro Four Thirds is heating up. Panasonic’s GX7 has a lot of people excited, but last week Olympus announced the OM-D E-M1, its latest flagship camera.

I have received a review sample, just prior to my leaving for a week-long vacation in Paris, France. The E-M1 will therefore be the subject of a daily blog here on this site. Check in every day for updates.

Though Compact System Cameras, including MFT, remain underdogs in North America and European markets, this is currently the segment with the most innovation.

I recently had an opportunity to work for a week in Mexico with the new Panasonic GX7 – shipping very soon – and found it to be the best MFT camera yet. Both stills image quality and video capability are first rate.

I received two new cameras for testing recently, the Panasonic GX7 and the Panasonic FX70. The GX7 is coming with me to Mexico on vacation this week, and I’ll be putting it through its paces there with a variety of lenses, shooting both stills and video.

My review of Panasonic’s latest superzoom, the FZ70 is now online.

KaleidoCamera teaches your DSLR new light field tricks

A prototype for a new DSLR add-on is poised to bring plenoptic capabilities to consumer cameras. The KaleidoCamera is designed to sit between a standard DSLR’s sensor and lens. A diffuser splits light passing through the lens into nine different beams, each passing through a filter before it reaches the camera’s sensor.
