It’s been two years to the month since I first reviewed the Panasonic GH2. Now it’s the GH3’s turn. This exciting new camera builds on the features and success of its predecessor. My premininary field report is now online.

"Every time I go back to a module I had already seen, I learn additional things. I have never seen tutorials that have the excellent mix of what the features are,
how to use them, enough of the under-the-hood information
and concepts so that I can utilize the features creatively and efficiently,
and just enough humor to keep the motivation level high. Wow!"

The Luminous Landscape – What’s New

This year the peak of Fall colour in Algonquin Park coincided with the arrival of a production Sony Alpha A99 camera for testing. I was able to spend several days working with the A99 in a range of weather and light conditions, along with a wide selection of Zeiss and G series lenses.
My field test report is now online.

"You and Jeff did it again! A great series of videos.
I’ve watched the earlier Camera to Print series as well as the LR 2 & 3 videos and as usual, I learned
new technique and ideas even though I’ve been behind a camera for 45 years.
Additionally, the rapport you two have is most engaging, enjoyable, and totally different than the sterile video tutorials from others (I’m afflicted with being a visual learner).
Again, a great series of videos that have helped me grow once again."

Lytro, the maker of the Lytro Lightfield Camera, has today announced that its ‘Lytro Desktop Application’ – the software that allows you to ‘refocus’ light-field images after they have been taken, is now available for Microsoft Windows. You’ll need to run the 64bit version of Windows Home, Professional or Ultimate on a computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo or better processor and at least 2GB RAM. At the same time the company announced two new accessories – a USB wall charger and a tripod mount, which are available for around $ 20 each.

Lytro has shipped its first Light Field Camera to a customer and we’ve had a chance to spend some time with one, to see what their experience is likely to be like. It’s a totally unconventional camera that captures images that can be refocused after they’re shot, so we haven’t shot our usual, 2D test charts but we’ve tried to sum-up its technology and what it’s like to shoot with. The cameras feature a 35-280mm equivalent, constant F2 lens with what the company is calling an 11 megaray sensor, that captures photos that can be refocused after shooting. Company Founder and CEO Ren Ng showed us the camera and talked us through the shooting experience.
