Camera Awesome update sees SmugMug snuggle up to Instagram

28 Mar

Awesomize.png

SmugMug has updated its popular Camera Awesome iOS app, including the option to share images via Instagram’s photo sharing service. The move comes a week after the popular Hipstamatic processing app added the same capability. So, while the Camera Awesome update includes a series of feature tweaks and the option to buy all add-on filters for $ 9.99 (or the balance, if you’ve already paid for some), the bigger news is that Instagram clearly has photo sharing ambitions far beyond its own apps.

Samsung doesn’t deny Android-based camera

15 Mar

Android2.png

Samsung has refused to confirm reports that it is working on an Android-based camera, only to say it is looking at the idea. The non-denial, which says ‘it is something we are monitoring,’ comes in response to reports from tech website Engadget that it is considering an ‘open’ camera operating system. However, while the site goes on to speculate that Android makes sense, based on its parent company’s use of the OS on its smartphones, we think there are other reasons for Samsung to use Android.

Camera ISO. ISO settings in digital cameras.

04 Mar

For more tutorials on digital photography, visit: www.imagemaven.com What is ISO? Set your ISO on your digital camera according to the brightness in the scene. 100 or 200 ISO for sunny days, and 400 for cloudy days. In really low light situations, use ISO 800 or 1600. The trade off for using high ISO is, the higher your ISO the more noise you will have in your photos, so it’s best to keep it as low as possible for better quality, less noisy photos. I suggest you test your camera(s) to figure out when the noise bugs you. That’s what I call your noise tolerance. You’ll have to open up your files on your computer and look at them at 100% to see the noise. The larger the sensor the less noise you will have. You’ll get a lot more noise with a point and shoot camera or your cell phone camera, than you will with a full frame sensor dSLR. For example my noise tolerance of my point and shoot is 400 ISO, but with my dSLR it’s 1600. That’s quite a difference. But sensors are getting better and less noisy all the time so you will probably have different tolerances than me. Another thing about ISO. If you double your ISO, say from 100 to 200, your sensor becomes twice as sensitive. Same with going from 200 to 400 ISO and 400 to 800, and 800 to 1600. Each doubling of the ISO results in doubling of the sensitivity. See the blog post www.imagemaven.com

Lytro has shipped its first Light Field Camera to a customer and we’ve had a chance to spend some time with one, to see what their experience is likely to be like. It’s a totally unconventional camera that captures images that can be refocused after they’re shot, so we haven’t shot our usual, 2D test charts but we’ve tried to sum-up its technology and what it’s like to shoot with. Click here to find out what we thought.

Black Rapid Camera Straps Reviewed – Berger Brothers Camera

23 Jan

www.berger-bros.com All camera straps are the same…right? WRONG! Most camera straps hang on both sides of your neck which can present a problem for those with back and/or neck problems. Black Rapid Camera Straps, however, are designed to alleviate back and neck problems by placing the strap to one side only. In addition the straps places the camera slightly behind you so that your camera is out of the way and protected from damage by your body. This is great if you’re shooting little children or you’re at a busy event and you need both hands free. Polaroid shows remarkably phone-like Android-based 3x zoom camera

13 Jan

Polaroid.png

CES 2012: Lifestyle photo brand Polaroid has been showing an Android-based camera with a 3x zoom on its stand. The company insists the device is a camera or, when pushed, says it can be thought of as a small tablet computer with a camera. This is despite its apparent similarity to a smartphone shown by Taiwanese contract manufacturer Altek late last year. The 16MP Wi-Fi compatible Polaroid camera features a 3x, 6.5-19.5mm lens and 1/2.33″ CCD sensor to give a 36-108mm equivalent lens range.

Just Posted: Our preview of the Fujifilm X-Pro1 and Fujifilm’s X system lenses. The X-Pro1 is, in many respects, the camera that many people hoped the X100 was foreshadowing: interchangeable lenses and a cutting-edge sensor combined in a classically-styled body and retaining the excellent hybrid optical/electronic viewfinder. We’ve had a chance to get our hands on the X-Pro 1 and the 18mm F2, 35mm F1.4 and 60mm F2.4 primes that are being launched alongside it, to get to really make sense of the camera, its capabilities and that unusual color-filter array.
