Once the Berlin Wall came crashing down in 1989, many surrounding nations – including Bulgaria – began to escape the grip of communism. But the ability for Bulgarian people to start businesses of their own in the capital city of Sofia was hampered by the high rents of urban storefronts. That’s when these enterprising people began opening ‘klek’ shops – small pop-up stores organized around basement windows.

Artist Ivaylo Getov has documented many of these fascinating little storefronts in a series on DeviantArt. The photos depict a variety of cases displaying examples of the wares found inside, or simply posters printed with their images. Customers crouch to view the selection of drinks, snacks, cigarettes and other small items.

Twenty-three years after klek shops were borne of necessity, they’re beginning to disappear, remaining in small numbers mostly for the benefit of tourists. While visitors from other countries, including America, are likely accustomed to vendor carts and other sidewalk shops in their hometowns, the sight of these makeshift shops – which fold closed and lock like shutters when business hours are over – is still unusual and intriguing.

Don’t remember what you named a recent file or what folder / location you placed it in? Use a date modified search.
It has happened to all of us. You recently created or modified a file in some application in Windows 7, but don’t remember its name or what folder in which you placed it. You can try going back to the original application and hope the filename is in the recently used file list by selecting the “File” menu, but what if the file is not there? All hope is not lost!
1. Click the Folder button in the taskbar….

When saving or opening a file in most every Windows 7 application, Explorer features can be used – sometimes with interesting effects.
Here’s a tips many new Windows 7 users don’t know about, and I’ve even shown this to a few experienced users. When opening or saving files in most applications, you are actually opening mini Explorer windows.
What does this mean? Right-click inside a blank area of the file area of the dialog box and you can choose how you want files in the current folder to be viewed, sorted, grouped, etc. You can even select “New” in the dialog box to create new files while supposedly inside an “Open” dialog box!…

Tired of your Windows 7 applications not taking up the whole screen?
Applications in Windows 7 run as … well .. windows. They don’t have to take up the full screen, allowing you to view the contents of multiple folders or applications simultaneously. You can move windows around, resize them, minimize them, etc.
However, there may be some applications that you would rather have take up the whole display whenever you start them. For example, if you open Notepad you would rather have the whole screen available for you to edit data – the same with Microsoft Excel or Microsoft Word. Or, perhaps you have a smaller monitor and need the full display every time you open up a web browser. Here’s a tip that works with most applications….
