21 March, 2013 – Three Free Streaming Videos about Phase One’s New Backs

21 Mar

Following a visit with Phase One executives last week, I have produced three new short streaming videos.

The first is a long exposure field test with the IQ260 back, the second is a look at wireless tethering with the new IQ200 series, and the third is an interview with Jacob Frost, team leader for the Capture One software development group.

We hope that you enjoy these, along with the interview with Phase One‘s CEO published a few days ago.

"Every time I go back to a module I had already seen, I learn additional things.  I have never seen tutorials that have the excellent mix of what the features are,
how to use them, enough of the under-the-hood information
and concepts so that I can utilize the features creatively and efficiently,
and just enough humor to keep the motivation level high.  Wow!"

13 Feb

While wearable, mountable cameras such as the GoPro have been the choice for capturing action-oriented stills and video, some camera phone cases enable users to achieve similar results safely from their smartphone – at a fraction of the cost. With the high-megapixel cameras and HD video recording capabilities of today’s advanced mobile devices, such accessories are becoming very viable options for extreme sports and action mobile photography. We look at three such products today on connect.dpreview.com.

Roger Cicala compares three 24-70mm F2.8 lenses

31 Jan

canon_24-70_2p8_ii.png

LensRentals’ Roger Cicala has published an interesting article comparing 24-70mm F2.8 lenses from Canon, Nikon and Tamron, using both an optical test bench and Imatest results from Canon EOS 5D Mark III and Nikon D800E bodies. This provides some insights about the interaction between the sharpness of the lens and resolution of the camera’s sensor, and under what practical circumstances you might see any difference. It’s worth reading for anyone interested in the long-running question: what provides more detail, a higher resolution sensor with a good lens, or a lower resolution sensor with a great lens?

a new decade. new directions. new connections.

this is a beat poem for the eyes in eight parts.

some sections have been considered, some are purely accidental.

fifty two pieces. diverse. from landscape to dada to abstract to portrait. and beyond.

the people, the artists, have made my year better. their gift to me.

this is a visual echo to them. to you.

a new decade.

may it treat you well.

[NB]

this work is in not in ‘absolute’ order of preference.

though of course, from the beginning, i thought about those who have a deep connection for me, so there is a modicum of ‘hierarchy’.

however, i suddenly remembered people who are dear to me toward the end of the process!! you cannot read too much into your ‘placing’ in the mosaics, and that is as it should be.

if you are not in the mix, i can only apologise. it was quite a lengthy process 😮
i will certainly have forgotten people [i can think of several now] who should have been a part of this process, but a year only contains a finite number of weeks.

you are not forgotten.

the best to all my contacts.

should you be interested in the fundamental reasons for many of my contacts being held in high esteem and great regard, please feel free to cast an eye over my new year video. it explains much with regard to how i view my contacts:

once again.

thank you all, for being who you are.

On May 11, 2012, we officially opened the newly rebuilt and improved Far Rockaway-Mott Av terminal on the A line. The sparkling, steel and glass, state-of-the art transit facility includes "Respite," a new glass panel artwork by Jason Rohlf made in jewel-toned colors from original paintings. The artwork dramatically diffuses the light inside to create a richly saturated interior space. The work can be seen throughout the station as well as from outside, adding visual impact to the existing architecture. Photo: Metropolitan Transportation Authority / Rob Wilson.

Nikon has announced that it is developing three additional lenses for its 1 System mirrorless cameras. The 32mm f/1.2 will offer a classic short telephoto ‘portrait’ option, equivalent to an 86mm lens on the 35mm full frame format. Finally the 10-100mm f/4-5.6 VR superzoom will offer a similar 27-270mm-equivalent range to Nikon’s existing 1 System powerzoom, but in a smaller package with a mechanical zoom ring. Full specifications, price and release date are yet to be revealed.
