Lensbaby Trio 28 real-world sample gallery

16 Nov

If Lensbaby’s dreamy signature look is eye candy, then the Trio 28 is its Neapolitan ice cream. Designed for mirrorless cameras, it puts three creative lenses in one place, offering the creative effects of the company’s Twist, Velvet and Sweet optics. Rotating the lens switches between the effects, so there’s no need to swap lenses or optics, but it does mean you’re stuck with a fixed F3.5 aperture. We’ve had a chance to take it out and about.

It’s finally here: Sigma 85mm F1.4 DG HSM Art sample gallery

15 Nov

The Sigma 85mm F1.4 Art is finally here, with units of the $ 1199 lens shipping now. The big question, almost as big as the lens itself: is it worth the wait? And, is it worth the weight? To find out, we wasted no time taking it out to shoot some portraits. Lots and lots of portraits.

Sample Reel: Check out the Panasonic FZ2500’s 4K video quality

12 Nov

The Panasonic FZ2500 made its Photokina 2016 debut sporting a 20MP 1″-type BSI-CMOS sensor and a 24-480mm equiv. F2.8-4.5 lens. And while it offers some pretty cool stills features, the FZ2500 is really a video-centered camera.

It is capable of 4K capture at both 24 and 30p as well as Full HD capture at up to 60p. The camera sports a fully-articulating touchscreen, mic and headphone ports as well as in-body image stabilization. The above video should give you an idea of the 4K and HD video quality, on-board microphone quality, image stabilization and zoom range. Note: when shooting 4K the widest focal length available is 36mm.

The only adjustments applied in post were to conform the higher frame rate clips to 30p, and to upscale as necessary to fill the frame.

Tiny marvel: Panasonic LX10 sample photos

11 Nov
Out of camera JPEG shot using the pop-up flash. You can definitely have a lot of fun shooting shooting around with the LX10. ISO 6400, F2 1/60 sec. Photo by Dan Bracaglia

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX10 is a premium compact camera sporting a 20MP 1″-type sensor and a F1.4-2.8 24-72mm equivalent zoom lens. It is both capable and easy to bring anywhere, making it an attractive option for those seeking a pocket camera. It does face some stiff competition from other 20MP 1″-type cameras like the Canon G7 X Mark II and Sony RX100 IV (and V), but so far we’ve had a great time shooting with it.

YI M1 Sample Gallery

28 Oct

The YI M1 is a new Micro Four Thirds camera by a China-based company called Young Innovators. Built around a familiar 20MP Sony sensor, the M1 offers quite a bit of room for Raw post processing. We took the YI around Seattle and over the hills to Leavenworth, WA to photograph some fall color.

Sample reel: the Sony RX100 V shoots impressively detailed 4K video

16 Oct

Sony’s RX100-series has always been a capable machine for video as well as stills, and the Mark V version is no exception. With the addition of phase-detection autofocus and oversampled 4K footage, we’ve been impressed with what we’ve seen so far. In this video, you’ll be able to check out 4K footage, 1080p footage (scaled to 4K), high frame rate footage, and more. Note that for the image stabilization demo, no attempt was made to smooth the camera motion – just normal walking with a camera out in front.

The only adjustments applied in post were to conform the higher frame rate clips to 30p, and to upscale as necessary to fill the frame (there is no change in crop-factor when going to 1080p as long as you haven’t enabled active or intelligent active IS, the shift in the fountain shot was just a reframing of the camera on our tripod). Otherwise, all clips are straight-out-of-camera.

Click here to download the clip for yourself.
