Sony releases silver version of the popular a6300

Tacked onto the end of the Sony E-mount 18-135mm F3.5-5.6 OSS lens announcement late last night was a short line that is very easy to miss:

Also announced today, Sony will be releasing a new silver color option for the popular ?6300 camera. The sleek new silver camera body will be available in February 2018 at select retailers.

It’s a minor update to be sure: entirely cosmetic, no difference that we know of in terms of specs or even price. But for those of you considering a Sony a6300—which falls into our Best Cameras Under $ 1,000 buying guide—maybe a new color is the nudge you didn’t know you needed to take the leap.

Broncolor releases HSS-capable RFS 2.2 flash trigger for Fujifilm cameras

Broncolor has launched the RFS 2.2 F for Fujifilm cameras. The new transmitter-receiver was made in collaboration with Godox, making it possible for Fujifilm owners to use broncolor’s pack systems and monolights. When used with supported products, namely broncolor’s Move and Siros lines, RFS 2.2 F supports high speed flash sync speeds up to 1/8000s. The device is also backward compatible with Senso, Scoro, and other RFS 2-enabled products.

The transceiver, which was previously launched for Canon, Nikon, and Sony, features a rotary control wheel alongside a backlit LCD and PC sync/hot shoe pass-through. Likewise, the RFS 2.2 F supports up to 99 studio channels with up to 40 lamp groups per channel. Radio connectivity range spans up to 100m / 300ft.

Broncolor says the RFS 2.2 for Fujifilm is available as a preorder for $ 112, with shipping planned to start “later in December.” But as The Phoblographer noted yesterday, Godox itself offers a very similar Fujifilm HSS transmitter for less than half the cost, at $ 46.

Fujifilm releases X Raw Studio and updates X-T2, X-T20, GFX 50S firmware

Fujifilm has announced its X Raw Studio Conversion System software, which it first teased back at Photokina. The software is essentially a viewer for the in-camera Raw converters that already exist on X and GFX series cameras. In fact, the software doesn’t actually do any processing – the camera does, over a USB connection. Fujifilm claims that X Raw Studio is more than twenty times faster than the SilkyPix-based converter. The macOS version is available for download today, with a Windows application to follow in February.

The software adjusts exactly the same parameters as on the camera and supports batch processing and saving conversion profiles. As you’d expect, a side-by-side viewer is available. As of today only the GFX 50S and X-T2 are supported, with the X-Pro2 and X100F to follow in December, all via firmware updates.

Speaking of which, the company also posted firmware updates for the X-T2, X-T20 and GFX 50S that were announced at Photokina. Changes include:

New FUJIFILM X RAW STUDIO

X RAW STUDIO utilizes the connected camera’s X-Processor Pro high-speed image processing engine, allowing for quick and effective conversion without compromising on image quality. Compatible with both Mac and PC systems, the new X RAW STUDIO enables batch conversion of a selection of images. Users can store conversion settings or copy settings between images, and variable image processing conditions can be adjusted in the same way as in-camera RAW conversion.

Moment releases new case and lenses for Apple iPhone X

Moment has launched a new photography case and lenses for the iPhone X, all of them currently listed for preorder on the company’s website. The protective case, which is simply called Photo Case, is black with a canvas or optional walnut wood backing, and is joined by wide-angle, macro, super fisheye, and telephoto lens options.

The lenses attached directly to the Photo Case.

Moment’s system gives the iPhone X—and select other phones—a sort of interchangeable lens system, enabling photographers to quickly attach and remove various lenses to the device as needed. The Photo Case doubles as a slim protective case, featuring microsuede on the inside, a thin rubberized body, and support for an optional wrist strap.

The lenses, meanwhile, are made with glass and feature Moment’s new bayonet system for locking the lens to the case. Moment explains that its lenses are durable due to the use of “aerospace grade metal” and a unique hardening process. The company offers a 12-month warranty for their lenses.

Sigma releases full-res sample photos captured with 16mm F1.4 DC DN lens

The new Sigma 16mm F1.4 DC DN | Contemporary lens made for APS-C E-Mount and M43 cameras has a lot of crop-sensor shooters very intrigued. Sigma says this lens boasts quality on par with its Art lens lineup, and our own hands-on at PPE 2017 was very positive. But before you order the lens—which ships at the end of this month and costs a very tempting $ 450—you’ll want to check out the gallery below.

Sigma Global has finally released official, full-resolution sample photos captured with the new lens. Despite the lens being made primarily for APS-C E-Mount, Sigma shooter Wataru Nakamura used a Sony A7RII to capture these samples in the camera’s 3:2 crop mode (17.8MP resolution).

B+W releases 3-slot filter holder for 100mm filter system

German filter manufacturer B+W has announced a new filter holder to go with the 2mm thick 100mm square filters it launched this year.

The new holder is made from aluminum and offers three slots so users can use multiple filters at the same time. The holder has a light seal on the rear to prevent leaks during long exposures, and the system has adapter rings for lenses with threads of 52mm to 82mm.

YI releases much-needed firmware update for Yi-M1 mirrorless camera

When we got our hands on Chinese camera maker YI’s first mirrorless camera, the YI-M1, we didn’t have a lot of positive things to say. Despite a great sensor, the camera was… unrefined. But the company just released a new firmware version for the M1 that promises to smooth out some of its rougher edges.

Key updates include (much-needed) improved AF speed, the addition of a RAW+JPG shooting option, exposure control in P, A, S and M modes when shooting video, AF/MF control during video capture, and the addition of a histogram in live view while shooting both stills and video.

We’ve updated our review model to the latest firmware and are taking it for another spin to possibly update our review, but in the meantime, check out the release notes below to see what all YI has improved and fixed on the M1 with this newest update.

EyeEm now lets you collect multiple model releases at once over text message

If you license images of people, you know how much of a pain it can be to gather the appropriate model releases. For every photo, you need a new release, even if you’re uploading 20 photos of the same person from the same photo shoot. Well, no longer. EyeEm just introduced a multi-release feature that lets you handle multiple releases at once; what’s more, you can do it all over text message.

The feature is very straightforward, as EyeEm shows in this short demo video:

It’s a 5-step process.

Step 1: Log on to EyeEm on the web, open the notifications pane, and go to To Dos.
Step 2: Click “Releases for multiple photos”
Step 3: Select all photos that show the same person
Step 4: Click next and fill out the model’s name
Step 5: Click next and share the link with your model through your favorite messaging app—SMS, WhatsApp, FB Messenger, and more are all available.

That’s it. The model can select only the photos they want to release, and once they’ve signed you will receive a confirmation email.

This might seem like a small feature, but if you’re a prolific stock photographer, generating multiple releases this easily removes a serious pain point. Plus, these releases can be used on other platforms as well, including Getty, Adobe, Alamy, and others.

Fujifilm releases firmware updates for X-T2, X-Pro2 and two lenses

Fujifilm has released firmware updates for its X-T2 and X-Pro2 camera bodies. The update to version 2.12 on the X-T2 and version 3.12 on the X-Pro2 fixes an issue that could occasionally cause the cameras to lock up when shooting in continuous high speed mode.

The X-T2 and X-Pro2 firmware updates are available to download at the links below:

Additionally, the company released updates for its XF 18-55 and XF 10-24 lenses. The new versions of the lens firmware fix an issue that could cause the focal length to be displayed incorrectly, and/or cause shaking in peripheral parts of images, even with focal length focus fixed.
