Nikon has announced that it will release new firmware for three of its DSLRs, improving their ability to communicate with the Atomos Shogun and Ninja-2 external video recording devices. Canon has announced the EOS C300 Mark II Cinema EOS camera, updating its predecessor with a new 8.85 megapixel 35mm sensor allowing 4K shooting. Also new are Dual DIGIC DV5 processors bringing the ability to record 10-bit 4:2:2 4K (UHD or DCI) video internally thanks using the new XF-AVC Codec. Read more
DJI has launched its latest drone, the Inspire 1, equipped with a new camera unit capable of 12MP stills and 4K video recording. The latest addition to DJI’s arsenal also includes a newly developed gimbal that can be removed and potentially upgraded in the future. Read more
Ricoh has announced the Theta M15, a second version of its 360-degree camera. The M15 is also capable of 360-degree spherical images, which can be viewed using Ricoh’s mobile app or theta360.com. The M15 adds video recording to its portfolio with clips up to three minutes. Learn more
Canon has announced an upcoming service update to its EOS-1D C professional DSLR that will add 25 fps 4K video recording. The camera currently captures 4096 x 2160p resolution videos at up to 24p without downscaling, from an APS-H crop of its 18MP full-frame sensor. In a service advisory,the company promises more information about this update in April 2013 for US EOS-ID C owners. There is currently no information on the European website. A test of recording audio onto a Canon 60D using the H4n to provide XLR inputs, phantom power and level adjustments, which is then compared with straight recording onto the H4n. I have used the method described by John Veleta at cinesmarts.wordpress.com It seems fairly similar to my ears…and would avoid having to sync in post…seems like a great option. Thanks John!
