Instagram v2.0 offers faster processing, larger images and more options

Instagram has updated its popular free image processing and sharing app to version 2.0, adding an revised interface and more features. Instagram v2.0 includes an improved user interface, faster image processing and the ability to save its processed images at higher resolution. The app still only shares low-res versions of files but allows you to save full resolution versions to your ‘phone (10x larger in the case of the iPhone 4). The latest version also adds four more processing filters and the option to add or remove borders from the existing ones.

Ambarella release iOne image processing chip for hybrid cameras

Image processor manufacturer, Amabarella has announced the iOne Android-based camera System-on-Chip (SoC). The iOne combines the company’s image and video processing experience with Android’s data communication capabilities, offering camera makers the ability to make more easily connected devices. The three-core processor is capable of simultaneous encoding of both a 1080p30 HD video stream and either still photos or a smaller video stream for fast broadcast via methods such as WiFi. The chip can also decode most popular video formats for streaming and replaying HD content amongst other features that could add significant functionality to future devices.

Digital Photo Processing – Clean JPG EXIF Metadata with Shareware ExifCleaner for Windows

ExifCleaner is one option for removing EXIF data in JPG images, such as inside photos taken by digital cameras.

EXIF metadata contained in JPG images contain a lot of information you may want kept private. For example, JPGs created by digital cameras may store information such as the camera make and model, exposure time, ISO speed, F-stop, and more. Some cameras may even store geolocation data telling where a photo was taken. If you distribute such files without removing the data, others with the right tools and knowledge can display this information.

If you want to remove EXIF metadata before distributing JPGs, one option is the shareware ExifCleaner for Windows. This software lets you open a batch of files, preview their contents if desired, and then remove EXIF metadata contained therein. You can have the software remove all metadata or just a subset of tags. New files can be generated with the cleaned data, or you can choose to overwrite the originals. …

[MODIFIED] Digital Photo Processing – Adjust Sliders, Try All Options in New Photo Editing Software / Plugins

Experiment with your digital photo editing software and plugins. Move sliders to the max and enable advanced options.

A great way to learn how to use digital photo editing software and plugins is through experimentation. When modifying your digital photos with such software, you’re bound to come across slider controls, whether you are modifying brightness, contrast, color balance, color saturation, etc. Sliders are also popular with filters. These controls let you fine-tune adjustments so that you can either change your photos a little or a lot.

When using sliders to adjust image features, especially if the sliders are linked to an auto-preview feature so you can see the results of your changes before actually applying them, consider going ‘all out’ and moving the sliders all the way to one side. Instead of merely modifying your photos with a 5% increase of contrast, 5% color shift from red to blue, etc., view dramatic changes to your photos. This may make it easier to see the effects of the color or filter, and then you can move the slider back to get the results you really want….
