Josh Trujillo’s ‘day job’ as a photojournalist for the Seattle PI involves him shooting across the Seattle area with a heavy DSLR outfit. For a trip back to his hometown of Santa Fe, New Mexico, we equipped him with something significantly lighter: the Canon PowerShot G7 X. Canon PowerShot SX60 HS real-world sample gallery posted

Canon’s flagship superzoom is its PowerShot SX60 HS, which sports a 21-1365mm equivalent lens – not quite Coolpix P900 territory but still very impressive. It also features a fully articulating LCD, Wi-Fi with NFC, and 1080/60p video. We’ve spent some time shooting with the SX60 and have put together a gallery of rusting trucks, sunsets, snowy owls and even snowier mountains. See gallery

CP+ 2015: A closer look at Canon’s forthcoming PowerShot G3X

Alongside new DSLRs and the EOS M3, Canon quietly announced a new high-end PowerShot last week. The G3 X hasn’t been released yet, but we’re at the CP+ show in Yokohama Japan, where a prototype (displayed under glass) offers some clues to its specification and ergonomics. Canon rolls out PowerShot SX410 IS and ELPH 350 HS compacts

07 Feb

Rounding out its pre-CP+ announcements, Canon has introduced two new PowerShot compacts – the SX410 IS and the ELPH 350 HS/IXUS 275 HS. The SX410 offers a 24-960mm equivalent zoom range, a 20MP CCD sensor, 720p video and Canon’s Intelligent IS stabilization. The PowerShot 350 HS assumes a more compact form with a 25-300mm equivalent zoom range, 20.2MP CMOS sensor, built-in Wi-Fi with NFC and 1080p video. Read more

Canon US advises PowerShot owners of potential battery problem

Canon has released an advisory note informing select PowerShot owners that their cameras might be affected by an issue with poor contact between the battery and battery terminal. Affected cameras include some PowerShot SX280 HS and S120 units among others, and owners are directed to check their serial numbers to see if their camera is included in the advisory. Read more

Canon announces five PowerShot compacts

08 Jan

Canon has introduced five PowerShot models, ranging from budget to midrange. The SX610 HS has a 25-450mm equiv. lens, 20.2MP BSI-CMOS sensor, 3″ LCD, Wi-Fi with NFC, 1080/30p video. Stepping up to the SX710 HS adds a 25-750mm lens, DIGIC 6 processor (the only model with this), and 60p video. The SX530 HS pairs a 16MP BSI-CMOS sensor with a whopping 24-1200mm lens. On the budget end there’s the ELPH 170 that has a 20MP CCD, 25-300mm lens, and 720p video. A cheaper ELPH 160 has a 28-224mm lens and no image stabilization. More details

It’s all in the details: Canon PowerShot G7 X Review posted

One of the year’s most interesting compacts comes in the form of the Canon PowerShot G7 X, which bears a 20MP 1-inch BSI CMOS sensor. It’s not just the bigger, likely Sony-branded sensor that’s the G7 X’s attraction, it’s also the 24-100mm equivalent F1.8-2.8 lens. On paper it’s a serious rival to Sony’s RX100 series, widely considered class leaders in terms of compact camera image quality. Does the G7 X live up to its impressive spec sheet? Read review

Richard Franiec offers Canon PowerShot G7 X custom grip

Richard Franiec is now offering a Canon G7 X custom grip, joining the examples he makes for the Sony RX100 series, Panasonic Lumix GM1 and other small camera models. Like his other products, it’s machined from high-grade aluminum alloy and attaches to the camera’s front plate with 3M VHB transfer tape that can be safely removed without leaving residue. Read more

From the outside, Canon’s PowerShot G7 X enthusiast compact looks like the S-series models that came before it, but inside it’s an entirely different story. The G7 X offers a 20MP 1″-type BSI CMOS sensor, a 24-100mm equiv. F1.8-2.8 lens and built-in Wi-Fi with NFC.
