Canon has been busy – its latest high-end compact, the PowerShot G7 X slots in beneath the G1 X Mark II, and offers a 20MP 1′-type sensor, 24-100mm equivalent F1.8-2.8 zoom lens and a host of other enthusiast-friendly features. Bring on the competition: Canon PowerShot G7 X First Impressions Review

For the last two years, the only enthusiast compact with a large sensor you could buy says ‘Sony’ on the front. Finally, at Photokina 2014, we get some competition from Canon. Canon introduces inexpensive PowerShot SX400 IS and SX520 HS superzooms

Canon has introduced a pair of budget-friendly superzooms: the PowerShot SX400 IS and SX520 HS. These cameras have 24-720mm and 24-1008mm equivalent lenses, respectively. The SX400 sports a 16MP CCD and 720p video, while the SX520 uses a CMOS sensor (likely BSI) that can produce Full HD movies. You’ll be able to pick up the SX400 IS in August for $ 249.99, with the SX520 HS following in September for $ 399.99.

Canon recalls about 14,000 PowerShot SX50 cameras

Canon U.S.A. has recalled about 14,000 PowerShot SX50 HS digital cameras. According to the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission, ‘A chemical used in the rubber part of the viewfinders on the camera can cause skin or eye irritation or an allergic reaction to the user’. The cameras in question have serial numbers beginning with 69, 70 or 71 and have 1 as the sixth digit of the serial number. Learn more

Canon PowerShot ELPH 150 IS, 140 IS and 135 compacts introduced

Canon announces the PowerShot ELPH 150 IS, ELPH 140 IS and ELPH 135, replacing its A-series of budget-friendly compacts. Each model uses a CCD sensor, providing a top video resolution of 720p. The 20 megapixel PowerShot ELPH 150 IS offers a 10x optical zoom and Intelligent IS. The PowerShot ELPH 140 IS has a 16 megapixel sensor, Intelligent IS and an 8x zoom, and the ELPH 135 provides an 8x zoom and 16 megapixels without IS. All three cameras are offered with a sub-$ 200 MSRP – a significant step down in price for the ELPH series.
