Magnum offers signed square prints for $100 in limited edition sale

Photo agency Magnum is offering prints from 50 of its photographers in a limited edition sale with each print costing $ 100. In a similar event to the one it ran last year, the agency challenged a collection of its photographers to find ‘an image that changes everything’ from their archive. The images will be made into 6×6″ prints, most of which will be signed by the photographer. Read more

Phase One XF medium format camera system offers new AF system and touchscreen interface

Phase One has announced its new modular medium format XF camera system. The body features a new ‘Honeybee’ autofocus platform (created ‘in-house’), touchscreen interface, and your choice of optical viewfinders. It supports the company’s IQ1 and new IQ3 digital backs, with the latter supporting resolutions of up to 80MP. Also announced today are a pair of Schneider lenses and an updated version of Capture One software. Read more

Panasonic Lumix DMC-G7 offers 4K video

Panasonic has announced the Lumix DMC-G7, updating its mid-range mirrorless line with 4K (30p/24p) video and still recording and some slight spec upgrades across the board. It offers a built-in 2,360k-dot OLED viewfinder, fully articulated 3″ 1,040k-dot LCD, improved autofocus speeds, 8 fps burst shooting (6 fps with continuous AF) as well as Wi-Fi connectivity. Read more

Shutterdial offers Flickr searches based on EXIF

Despite the service’s recent major update, Flickr doesn’t yet offer a way for users to search content based on camera settings. Shutterdial, a website from photographer Tianhe Yang, fills that void by using the Flickr API to offer photo searches based on based on four criteria: subject, focal length, shutter speed and aperture. Read more

Olympus offers limited edition Titanium OM-D E-M5 II and firmware update

Olympus has announced that it is is producing a new limited edition ‘Titanium’ OM-D E-M5 II camera. The Titanium E-M5 II will offer all of the same features and specs of the regular version, with its top and bottom plates swapped out for dark metallic versions that match those of the OM-3/Ti from 1994. Worldwide, 7,000 copies of the Titanium model will be made, though how many will be available in the US is yet to be announced. The company is also readying firmware updates for both the E-M1 and E-M5 II, related mostly to underwater shooting. Read more

Leica M Monochrom Type 246 offers live view and boosted ISO range

Leica has introduced an updated version of its black-and-white-only digital rangefinder. The M-Monochrom Typ 246 uses a full frame 24MP CMOS sensor that, like its predecessor, has no color filter array. The model that came before it used an 18MP CCD sensor, so the upgrade to a CMOS chip provides several improvements such as live view and video recording capabilities. Read more

Zeiss offers full-frame E-mount ‘Batis’ 25mm F2 and 85mm F1.8 lenses

Zeiss has revealed two new full-frame lenses for Sony’s E-mount system, the Batis 2/25 and 1.8/85. They offer autofocus, and are the first Zeiss-produced FE-style lenses to do so. Each lens barrel contains an OLED displaying focus distance and depth of field. A linear motor AF drive keeps operation quiet, and both lenses are sealed against dust and moisture. Read more

Venus Optics offers hotshoe Macro Twin Flash KX-800 with guide number of 190ft/58m

Chinese flash manufacturer Venus Optics has launched a double headed macro flash unit, claiming that it has the highest guide number in the world for such a device. The Kuangren Macro Twin Flash KX-800 uses a pair of flash heads on extending flexible arms that can be positioned in front of the lens for extreme close-up work. Another arm houses an LED light to help with focusing. Read more

Datacolor offers Spyder5 with redesigned calibrator

Color management company Datacolor has announced a new version of its Spyder monitor calibrating tool that it claims offers up to 55% improvement in tonal response, leading to ‘more accurate shadow detail and smoother gradients.’ The body of the new Spyder5 calibrator has been redesigned, somewhat losing the spider legs that got the series it name. Read more

Nikon 1 J5 offers 20.8MP BSI sensor and revamped look

The Nikon 1 J5 has been announced as the latest member of Nikon’s mirrorless lineup. It offers a more traditional shape and feel with a contoured grip and a command dial. Its 1″-type 20.8MP BSI-CMOS sensor offers a boost in resolution over its predecessor, and is capable of 4K video capture at 15 fps. Read more
