Video Overview: Leica Q

We had the chance recently to spend some time shooting with the Leica Q. The Q is a rangefinder-style camera that sports a 28mm F1.7 fixed lens and a 24MP full-frame CMOS sensor. We were quite enamored with the Q, both in a practical sense, as well as aesthetically. As such, we decided to share some of our first impressions, while also taking a closer look at what makes the Q so appealing. See video

Leica Q unveiled with 24MP full-frame sensor and fixed 28mm F1.7 lens

Leica has just introduced the Q (Typ 116), a full-frame compact camera with a fixed, stabilized 28mm F1.7 Summilux lens. It offers a 24MP CMOS sensor and a 3″ 1.04M dot touch-sensitive LCD. A built-in LCoS EVF offers an equivalent resolution of 3.68MP, and the Q skips a built-in flash but provides a standard hot shoe. Video recording at 1080/60p and built-in Wi-Fi are also offered. Boasting a 24MP full-frame sensor, ultra high-resolution electronic viewfinder and pin-sharp 28mm F1.7 lens, the Q has some serious enthusiast credentials. Despite the naming similarity with Pentax’s tiny mirrorless cameras, the Leica Q, with a 24MP full-frame sensor and fixed 28mm F1.7 stabilized lens it’s not quite like anything we’ve seen before. It has all the good looks of an M-series rangefinder, adding modern features like a 3″ 1.04M dot touchscreen and built-in Wi-Fi. Mono a mono: Leica M Monochrom (Typ 246) hands-on

Leica’s new Monochrom M camera brings the black-and-white-only concept up to date with the technological advantages of the latest M (Typ 240) and M-P cameras. The main changes are a switch from CCD to CMOS sensors, and thus the introduction of live view and a jump to 24MP, along with a much better rear screen. We went hands-on with the new black-and-white beauty. Leica introduces its first ever F1.4 aperture 28mm lens for the M system

Leica has announced the forthcoming availability of its fastest ever 28mm lens for the M-system of rangefinder cameras. The Leica Summilux-M 28mm F1.4 ASPH will arrive in stores from June 22nd, and will be priced at £3975/$ 5950. Read more

Ona introduces black version of the Leica M edition Berlin ll bag

US luxury camera bag brand Ona has announced a new black version of its Berlin ll messenger-style bag. Designed especially for the Leica M system, the Berlin was originally a limited edition model created to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Leica, but the Berlin ll went on general release beyond Leica stores. Previously only available in the Vintage Bourbon tan finish, the black version of the Berlin has been created, according to Ona, because so many people asked for it. Read more

Leica M Monochrom Type 246 offers live view and boosted ISO range

Leica has introduced an updated version of its black-and-white-only digital rangefinder. The M-Monochrom Typ 246 uses a full frame 24MP CMOS sensor that, like its predecessor, has no color filter array. The model that came before it used an 18MP CCD sensor, so the upgrade to a CMOS chip provides several improvements such as live view and video recording capabilities. Read more

Ich weiß gar nicht mehr, was mich eigentlich dazu bewogen hat, die Leica Monochrom zu testen. Reizte mich der Gedanke, einmal in jene elitäre Welt einzutauchen, in der ein einzelnes Objektiv mehr kostet als meine gesamte Fotoausrüstung? Etwas nicht haben zu können, weckt schließlich Begehrlichkeiten.
