Leica has released a firmware update for its M Typ 240 camera with a huge list of improvements and bug fixes. Firmware 2.0.1.5 adds a few new interesting features such as expanded Auto ISO options and the ability to use live view with any lens. The new firmware is available now. Read more

With the T (Typ 701) Leica debuted a brand new mirrorless lens mount. Built around a 16MP APS-C CMOS sensor, the T has an ISO range of 100-12500 and offers 5fps continuous shooting and Full HD movie recording with stereo sound. We’ve been waiting for a Leica T to arrive in the dpreview office since it was announced back in April, and today our wish finally came true. It’s a crazy time in the camera industry. Here we are in a Photokina year and major announcements are being made every week. One has to wonder what the camera makers are holding back to show at Photokina. Well, Leica a few days ago decided to make a special announcement to celebrate their “100 Years of Leica Photography” with the “Leica M Edition 100”. Sean Reid a regular contributor on Luminous-Landscape gives us a peek at this “Limited Edition 100”. Some might say when you read about this special kit, that Leica has lost its way, but so far that hasn’t been the case. Sean’s take on the NEW 24mm 1.4 lens is of special interest. Leica has updated the firmware for its T (Typ 701) mirrorless camera to Version 1.1. In one of the stranger descriptions we’ve seen, Leica hasn’t given any specific details of what’s changed, saying instead that “you will get the complete scope of functions and performance as described in the manual of your camera”. Have you been lusting after a Leica Monochrom but anxiously hoping for its release in a new body finish? Well your long, nightmarish wait is over. Leica has announced that its M Monochrom, first announced in 2012, is now available in a new limited silver chrome ‘color version’. The BBC has posted a video looking at Leica’s history, on the Germany company’s 100-year anniversary. The very first Leica camera was designed in 1914 by engineer Oskar Barnack, who refined the basic design through multiple iterations, leading all the way to today’s digital M-mount rangefinders. In the video, photojournalist and long-time Leica user Tom Stoddart shares his thoughts on the company, and on some of the classic images that have been captured on Leica cameras over the past 100 years.
