JK Imaging updates Kodak line with superzooms and ‘Smart Lenses’

CES2014: JK Imaging has announced an array of Kodak-branded cameras, including a superzoom compact with a 65x optical zoom and a couple of ‘Smart Lenses’ designed to clip onto smartphones (very much like Sony’s QX cameras). It’s also given more details about its long-in-development PIXPRO S1 Micro Four Thirds mirrorless camera. Click through to learn more.

Google reworks Android to allow for Raw imaging

Google+ reaches out to photographers with new imaging features

UK’s Focus on Imaging photo trade show to close

The organisers of Europe’s largest photographic trade show, Focus on Imaging, have declared that this year’s show was the last. Mary Walker Exhibitions had organised the show, held in March at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham UK, for the past 24 years. In a statement Mary Walker announced that the rights to the show would not be sold on, but instead it is simply being brought to an end.

Imaging Resource unpacks the mystery of Robert Capa’s ‘Mexican suitcase’

Imaging Resource has published an interesting article by Steve Meltzer, which examines the mystery of the so-called ‘Mexican suitcase’ – a long-lost collection of images taken by the late Robert Capa. Before escaping Europe ahead of the Nazi invasion of France, Capa entrusted a large number of negatives to a friend for safekeeping. The collection went missing, and was presumed lost for decades until being identified in Mexico in 1995. Robert Capa’s brother, Cornell Capa, finally got to see the long-lost negatives in 1997 – forty three years after his brother’s death. Click through for a link to the full story.

Canon’s imaging CEO promises 70D and talks about the future of compacts

CP+ 2013: There will be a Canon EOS 70D, but the future of semi-pro DSLRs is probably full-frame, says Masaya Maeda, Managing Director and Chief Executive, Image Communication Products Operations at Canon. However, while he says new concepts are needed to save the compact camera, he doesn’t see larger sensors as being the answer for the mass market.
