Just posted: Our hands-on preview of the Sigma 18-35mm F1.8 DC HSM Art lens. The announcement of the world’s first constant F1.8 zoom caused a lot of discussion, much of it centered around the idea that the brighter aperture would help APS-C DSLRs to compete toe-to-toe with full frame cameras in many respects. We’ve had a chance to handle the lens and prepare a preview putting its capabilities in more context. Click here to find out more.

Just Posted: Our hands-on Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF6 preview. The GF6 expands the capabilities of Panasonic’s GF series away from the point-and-shoot focus that it had increasingly pursued. The latest model adds a more sophisticated touch-screen and additional control points that will benefit a range of users but it’s the NFC-mediated Wi-Fi system that we found really interesting. Add this on top of the 16MP sensor from the GX1 and you have an interesting combination of features. Click through to find out more.

We’ve just posted a hands-on preview of the Canon EOS 700D/Rebel T5i. Remarkably similar to its predecessor, the Canon 700D’s new model number seems intended more to showcase the new 18-55mm STM lens than to highlight the new camera’s few minor changes. Does the 700D remain a good choice for first-time SLR buyers? Click through to read our hands-on preview.

We’ve just posted a hands-on preview of the Canon EOS 100D/Rebel SL1. Distinguished by its impressively small form factor, the 100D’s 18MP CMOS sensor, 3″ touchscreen LCD and 1080p30 video resolution will be familiar to followers of the Rebel series. Canon’s hybrid phase/contrast detect AF system has been tweaked, however, to provide much greater scene coverage. Has Canon managed to maintain its customary handling experience in the smallest DSLR it has ever made? Click through to read our preview and find out.

We’ve just posted a hands-on preview of Nikon’s latest small form-factor compact, the Coolpix P330. Externally almost identical to its predecessor the P310, the P330 features a larger 1/1.7″ BSI-CMOS sensor and raw capture mode – two additions that should make it much more popular with enthusiasts, as well as putting it in direct competition with Canon’s popular PowerShot S110. We’ve spent a little time with the P330, and for more details, images and specifications, click through to read our hands-on preview.

Hands-on with the HTC One at the Mobile World Congress

28 Feb

_DXO0379.jpg

While most smartphone manufacturers have opted for a 13MP camera module, HTC is going the opposite way in terms of sensor resolution, equipping the HTC One with a 4MP camera. Hwever, the photodiodes that collect the light on the HTC’s sensor module are similar in size to those found in enthusiast compact cameras such as the Canon Powershot G15, and as such, the new HTC sensor promises much better low-light performance than conventional smartphone cameras. We take a closer look at what HTC is calling ‘ultrapixel’ technology at connect.dpreview.com
