Joe McNally – Control of Color (2/2)

02 Nov

“The best photographs move you—emotionally, intellectually, spiritually. There’s almost a visceral reaction to a really striking photograph that communicates on all those levels.” Joe McNally has been described as “perhaps the most versatile photojournalist working today,” a distinction earned for his ability to capture compelling images in locations as diverse as an operating room, the top of the Empire State Building and the cockpit of a jet aircraft. Noted for his technical mastery, what makes him unique is his ability to create and imaginatively render “the big idea”—the unique or startling concept that frames a single image or a long-term project. He has been published in virtually every major magazine, including Life, Newsweek, Time and Sports Illustrated (where he was a contract photographer for six years) and is a recipient of the Alfred Eisenstadt Award for outstanding magazine photography. Lytro provides more exposure control and additional colors

16 Oct

Lytro_two_up.png

Lytro has announced an update that provides greater exposure control for its Light Field Camera. It will also be offering the 8GB version of the camera in two addition colors – Moxie Pink and Seaglass that will be availble from Target.com/CityTarget stores and the Lytro website respectively. The update, that will be available to all existing customers, adds a manual mode, that provides control over shutter speed and ISO (aperture always being wide open). If you decide to specify both parameters, it becomes possible to apply exposure compensation and apply the camera’s built-in ND filter.

Windows 8 – Toggle Computer, Control Panel, Files, Network, Recycle Bin on Desktop

16 Oct

Show or hide a variety of icons on the Windows 8 Desktop: Computer, Control Panel, Files, Network, and/or the Recycle Bin.

By default, the Windows 8 Desktop is fairly sparse, only showing an icon for the Recycle Bin so you can quickly view deleted files that have not been completely removed from the system.

Chainfire creates Android tethered control app for Canon DSLRs

07 Aug

App developer Chainfire has created a program for tethered shooting of Canon DSLRs using Android 3.0-powered tablets. Its ‘DSLR Controller’ app uses a USB connection to provide a high level of control over Canon DSLRs. In addition to Android 3.0 (also known as Honeycomb) tablets, DSLR Controller can also be used on Samsung’s Galaxy S2 smartphone. Beta version 0.5 of the app is currently available for around $ 8.50 from the Android Market and offers a wide range of control options, including touch focus, histogram, bulb capture and the ability to change many of the camera’s shooting settings. Additional functions, including time lapse, video recording and image playback are still being worked-on. Chainfire says it plans to provide Nikon support once the Canon features are complete.
