Photography Basics for Beginners

16 Nov

How many videos have you watched of professional photographers telling you how to take pictures? I am just a regular guy, who wanted to learn how to shoot great pictures, and wanted to dumb it down to where even I could understand. This video may not be professionally done, but hopefully it helps move you to the next level of photography. Good luck and hope this helps. Also, much love and thanks to the professional photographers that helped me gather the knowledge and courage to do this video. Check out Snapchick, KreativeVueTV, and MichaelTheMentor among many other great people on YouTube to learn more advanced (and correct terminology).

Mylochka’s Postwork Tutorial for Beginners Part 1

30 Oct

A demonstration of a few quick and easy techniques for enhancing an image rendered in a 3D graphics program like Poser using Photoshop.
Video Rating: 5 / 5

Part 1 of a 2 part Photoshop and lightroom tutorial, in this film I demonstrate how to create a virtual copy of an abstract architectural image and enhance seperate elements in the resulting two images in Lightroom, the images are then opened as layers in Photoshop and the channels are used to easily create a mask so that the 2 images can be merged. The image is then sharpened using an alpha channel mask. View in sequence or it won’t make much sense. These techniques would also apply to many landscape images. All images © Martin Gardner 2010.

New beginners’ guides and Site news

30 Oct

Now that the frenetic burst of activity around Photokina is over, we thought it was time to give you a quick update on what we’re up to here at dpreview.com. We’ve recently added a few new beginners’ guides to our Learn section, covering photo printing and pocket camcorders, and we’re hard at work on our reviews of the hottest products from the show. We’ve also moved out of our London office and relocated to the United States, which has obviously caused a little disruption, but we’ve worked very hard to ensure the delay in publishing reviews is kept to a bare minimum. More after the link.
