The Dell Canvas 27-inch ‘horizontal smart workspace’ is now available to buy for $1,800

05 Aug

The massive touchscreen ‘horizontal smart workspace’ Dell unveiled during CES 2017 is now available to purchase, and a little bit cheaper than expected, at least for now.

Called the Dell Canvas, this 27-inch display is designed specifically for artists and other creatives who need a large visual workspace in which to edit photos, create graphics, or digitally paint. While Canvas resembles Microsoft’s alternative, the Surface Studio, Dell’s product is merely a very large display, meaning buyers will need to buy a PC separately to connect to the display.

Dell Canvas features a massive 27″ QHD Adobe RGB touch screen designed to rest horizontally on a desk. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass with an anti-glare surface. Joining the display is a pen with multiple tip options for simulating various textures—combine this pen with a total lack of input lag and you get an experience that Dell says is “as close to sketching on paper as possible.”

Also available with the Canvas is a totem (knob) for accessing software menus quickly with the user’s free hand. The totem can be positioned wherever is most comfortable on the screen, and it can be used alongside a second totem if desired. As for Canvas itself, users can optionally prop the display up into ‘Draftsman’ mode via a built-in kickstand. The kickstand can be extended in 10-degree increments up to 80-degrees.

Canvas is available now from Dell’s website, where it currently starts at $ 1,800 thanks to a discount promotion (MSRP is $ 2,000). Dell offers the display with an optional VESA mount (+$ 200) or articulating stand (+$ 500), as well.

Japan Camera Hunter StreetPan 120 Black & White film is now available for preorder

31 Jul

Bellamy Hunt of Japan Camera Hunter has just launched the JCH StreetPan 120 Black & White film for preorder through the company’s online shop. Hunt first released a 35mm version of the StreetPan film in 2016, and he has now launched this 120 version in response to popular demand.

According to Hunt, “It is the same old StreetPan you know and love, just in a larger size” for medium-format photographers.

Hunt goes on to explain that, while the film is available for preorder now, it is still in production; if everything goes as planned, the film will launch in mid-to-late August with shipping starting in early September. The film is offered in various quantities starting at a 3-pack for ¥3900 / $ 35 USD and ranging up to a 10-pack for ¥13,000 / $ 118 USD. Shipping is available globally.

As with the original StreetPan film, the 120 version offers a very fine grain alongside ‘excellent penetration’ through atmospheric conditions like fog and haze. Japan Camera Hunter explains that this high-speed film is sensitive to red light and has “near IR sensitivity.” Full details on its properties, including development times, are available here.

Google’s Motion Stills app is now available for Android

21 Jul

Last year Google launched Motion Still for iOS, an app that stabilizes the iPhone’s Live Photos and makes them shareable as looping GIFs and videos. Now the software giant has made the app available for Android devices running version 5.1 and later of its own mobile OS.

The app works a little differently on Android to the iOS version. Instead of using an existing Live Photo, the Android version forces you to record video inside the app. Stabilization is then applied using a, compared to the iOS version, redesigned video processing pipeline that processes each frame of a video as it is being recorded. As consequence the results are instant and no waiting is required to share the created GIFs.

Fast Forward is a new feature and builds on the stabilization algorithm to capture longer clips and create stabilized time-lapses or hyperlapses. Playback speed is adjustable from 1x to 8x and GIF output can be created in three sizes.

Motion Stills for Android is now available on Google Play.

  • AF-S NIKKOR 28mm f/1.4E ED – Outstanding Definition and High Resolution Wide-Angle Prime Lens

MELVILLE, NY (May 31, 2017 at 12:01 A.M. EDT) — Today, Nikon announced three exciting new wide-angle NIKKOR lenses to give a diverse array of users brilliant image quality and maximum versatility whether shooting vast landscapes, architecture, interiors, events and many other wide-angle applications. The new ultra-wide zoom and lightweight DX-format AF-P DX NIKKOR 10-20mm f/4.5-5.6G VR is an excellent value for budding shutterbugs and novice shooters looking to explore a wide-angle point of view, while the new AF-S Fisheye NIKKOR 8-15mm f/3.5-4.5E ED is an FX-format circular fisheye zoom lens for photographers and content creators who desire a truly unique perspective. Lastly, the new AF-S NIKKOR 28mm f/1.4E ED is a superior prime lens that provides professional and advanced photographers the ultimate in wide-angle image quality. Both the AF-S Fisheye NIKKOR 8-15mm f/3.5-4.5E ED and AF-S NIKKOR 28mm f/1.4E ED are the latest additions to the Gold Ring Series of NIKKOR lenses, a mark identifying Nikon’s premium lens offerings.

“Nikon continues to push the limits of optical excellence, while making new perspectives more attainable than ever before with our latest wide-angle NIKKOR offerings,” said Kosuke Kawaura, Director of Marketing and Planning, Nikon Inc. “Whether a photographer is a novice learning the art of landscapes, an enthusiastic video creator or a working professional shooter, Nikon now makes the wide-angle perspective achievable for everyone.”

The AF-P DX NIKKOR 10-20mm f/4.5-5.6G VR – Ultra-Wide Zoom Lens That’s Compact and Portable

The new NIKKOR 10-20mm is an ultra-wide-angle DX-format zoom lens that opens new perspectives and possibilities for those new to photography, and is ideal for shooting travel and scenery, real estate, large group portraits or vlogging. This new lens combines superior image quality and an attainable price to give consumers wide-angle versatility with a lens that’s remarkably compact and lightweight.

Like all NIKKOR lenses, the new AF-P DX NIKKOR 10-20mm f/4.5-5.6G VR provides advanced optical technologies for stellar image quality in any light, whether shooting a sun-drenched coastal vista, tight spaces or the night sky. The lens features the equivalent of 3.5 stops1 of Vibration Reduction (VR) performance, to help capture sharp images while handheld or in challenging light. Additionally, it utilizes Nikon’s Pulse Motor technology for super-fast and whisper quiet AF operation- which is especially useful when recording video. The optical formula contains three aspherical elements for excellent image quality with minimal distortion even at the widest focal length.

This is a versatile lens that not only excels at shooting expansive horizons, but also offers a remarkably close working distance that’s useful for images or showing up-close details when making product-related videos or how-to content. To get closer to capture small objects with big details, the lens has a close minimum focusing distance of only 8.6 inches (0.22 meters), bringing small objects to life in glorious size.

AF-S Fisheye NIKKOR 8-15mm f/3.5-4.5E ED – Circular Fisheye for Photographers and Content Creators

Nikon’s first fisheye zoom gives photographers and filmmakers an FX-format lens with the look and feel of a circular fisheye and the versatility of a full-frame fisheye, all in one lens. The new lens design provides a creative circular 180-degree vertical / horizontal angle of view on full frame cameras, and zooms to a non-circular fisheye view (180-degree diagonal angle of view) on the long end of the focal range. The lens can also be used on DX-format cameras for a distinctive point-of-view and extreme wide-angle applications. When looking to push creative boundaries, the intriguing perspective from a fisheye lens should be considered to provide a distinct look to your photos and videos, such as a dramatic emphasis on a subject or an extremely wide interior point of view.

The AF-S Fisheye NIKKOR 8-15mm f/3.5-4.5E ED is also the latest in Nikon’s Gold Ring Series of premier lenses and features a next-generation design for high-resolution Nikon DSLR cameras. Made for advanced photographers and creators, this durable lens is constructed of lightweight magnesium alloy, and employs internal focusing (IF) to retain its compact size, even while focusing. It is also Nikon’s latest lens to use an electromagnetic diaphragm for consistent exposure during high speed shooting, or smooth exposure control while capturing video.

The optical formula of the Fisheye NIKKOR 8-15mm consists of three ED elements to reduce chromatic aberration, while two aspherical lens elements minimize coma even at the widest aperture, and enable a more compact lens size. Additionally, the front lens element is coated with Nikon’s non-stick Fluorine coat to help resist dirt, fingerprints and smudges, while Nikon’s exclusive Nano Crystal Coat helps reduce ghost and flare.

AF-S NIKKOR 28mm f/1.4E ED – The Latest in The Gold Ring Series of f/1.4 Primes in the NIKKOR Line

The new AF-S NIKKOR 28mm f/1.4E ED is Gold Ring glass that provides maximum versatility for outstanding definition and sharpness regardless of shooting scenario. With a fast f/1.4 maximum aperture and nine blade rounded diaphragm, it affords a shallow depth of field with gorgeous bokeh and stellar low light performance, making it a great choice for shooting low light landscapes, interiors and events.

The superbly balanced and solid body is composed of lightweight magnesium alloy, and features dust and water drop resistant sealing to withstand the elements, combined with a fluorine coating to resist dirt and smudges. The optical construction of the lens is engineered for the best possible wide-angle image quality. It consists of 14 elements in 11 groups, with three aspherical elements that virtually eliminate coma, aberration and distortion, with two ED glass elements that minimize chromatic aberration. The lens also uses Nikon’s Nano Crystal coat to reduce instances of ghosting and flare.

The new AF-S NIKKOR 28mm f/1.4E ED is a welcome addition to Nikon’s stable of impressive f/1.4 primes that give professional photographers and creators the highest levels of image quality and performance, which also include; The AF-S 24mm f/1.4G ED, AF-S NIKKOR 35mm f/1.4G, AF-S NIKKOR 58mm f/1.4G, AF-S NIKKOR 85mm f/1.4G and AF-S NIKKOR 105mm f/1.4E ED.

Prynt Pocket, a pocket-sized photo printer for iPhone, is now available

25 May

Prynt, the company that launched a phone case/printer through the crowdfunding website Kickstarter in 2015, has released its next-generation mobile printer, the Prynt Pocket. With Prynt Pocket, users can print a photo directly from their iPhone by inserting the handset into the printer, then snapping a photo. The related Prynt app also offers an augmented reality feature that plays a video within the physical photo print.

Prynt Pocket utilizes Zink inkless photo paper and has a removable paper cartridge that holds up to ten sheets at a time. Once Pocket is attached to an iPhone, users can snap a photo and then make edits using the Prynt app, including adding stickers and text, and adjusting the lighting. The printer takes about half a minute to produce a photo.

Unlike some competing instant cameras and mini printers, the Prynt app also leverages augmented reality to give users something a bit more modern and technical: 10-second looping videos that play when a Prynt photo is viewed using the company’s mobile app. The (optional) video is recorded when the photo is taken and is uploaded to the cloud, where it is then utilized whenever someone views the photo with the Prynt AR app feature.

Prynt Pocket is available from Prynt’s website now for $ 149.99. A 40-pack of photo paper retails for $ 19.99.

Meet the Prynt Pocket — The Device that Transforms your Phone into the Smallest and Coolest Instant Camera

Now small enough to fit in the palm of your hand, Prynt’s second generation device is the easiest way to print and share life’s everyday moments while on-the-go

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — (Marketwired) — 05/23/17 — Prynt, the company leading a new era of instant photography, today announced Prynt Pocket, a device that transforms your phone into the smallest and coolest instant camera. Small enough to fit in the palm of your hand, Prynt Pocket attaches directly to your phone, and lets you capture, print and share life’s everyday moments — from spontaneous to special occasions — while on-the-go. The Prynt Pocket also has innovative video capabilities for next-gen storytelling, giving you the option to embed augmented reality videos into your photos and bring them to life in a Harry Potter-like way. Check out the video.

The phone in our pocket serves as our camera, photo album, and the way we share our lives digitally. But with the thousands of photos stored on our phones, there’s never been an easy way to print those photos, so they become lost in our phones and rarely looked at again. Prynt is changing this and giving everyone — from teens and millennials to young parents — the ability to turn their phone into an instant camera. Printing photos from your phone is now just as instant and exciting as posting a photo on Instagram or Snapchat.

“We are thrilled to bring Prynt Pocket to market after the success we have had with the Prynt Case,” said Clément Perrot, co-founder and CEO of Prynt. “There is nothing cooler than being able to print a photo straight from your phone, and when you add in the augmented reality video feature, that takes photo sharing to a whole new level. By turning a phone into an instant camera, everyone gets to experience the shared enjoyment of reliving fun and spontaneous moments through a printed photo.”

Using Prynt Pocket is easy. Simply attach it to your phone and you’re ready to print. Once you’ve taken a photo, you have the option to record a 10-second video that will be hidden within that photo. Before printing, the Prynt app enables you to edit and enhance your photo with fun, creative filters, text and memes. Then, whoever has a physical copy, can use the Prynt app to scan the photo and watch it come to life. Whether a marriage proposal, surprise announcement or selfie video, Prynt Pocket adds magic to any moment.

The ultra-portable Prynt Pocket, Prynt comes in three colors — cool grey, graphite and mint — making it a fashion-forward accessory that fits any lifestyle. It uses inkless paper for vibrant, long-lasting, tear and smudge resistant photos. The paper has adhesive backing so you can peel and stick your photos anywhere — whether on an inspiration board, scrapbook or your desk at work. Through the Prynt app, users can also share their photos and video creations across all social channels, as well as print their favorite Instagram, Snapchat, etc. pictures directly from their phone.

Prynt Pocket is now available for purchase on www.prynt.co/, Amazon.com and UrbanOutfitters.com for $ 149. In early June, it will also be available at Best Buy, with additional retailers to be introduced. Prynt Pocket is compatible with the iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 7, iPhone SE, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 5s, iPhone 5, and will be available for Android later this year.
