Illusion relies on expectation – we glance but only glimpse what is familiar and the rest blends neatly into the background, particularly as we go about our busy lives in a bustling urban center.
As nifty as these body-painted costumes by Carolyn Roper (via DailyMail) are, the reactions of passers by are the best part – a shocked bus rider or fruit-stand shopper caught in their moment of surprise by waiting photographers.
To complete the spectacle, every element is critical, from the lines of reflection on a vehicle to the details of fresh vegetables drawn on to carefully mimic tomatoes, beets, pumpkins and lettuce.
The stunts were a marketing move by Really TV for a CIA drama titled Covert Affairs – it is hard to say how well such guerrilla marketing campaigns translate to new viewers for television shows, but thanks to publishers picking up the story, well, surely a few of those spooked by these urban camouflaging antics will check out this show about spooks.
Chinese artist Liu Bolin painstakingly paints his subjects so that they seem to disappear into their surroundings in amazing urban camouflage photography.

This is not intended to be a high-end retouching tutorial – but techniques that can help people who want to do natural-looking retouching while maintaining most of the natural skin texture! I’m an Army Soldier deployed to Iraq that had a little extra time on my hands. I created this christmas video using glowsticks and flashlights. My camera was a Nikon D300 using a 30sec exposer @ ISO 200 & F11. It is hard to get Christmas lights out here in the desert that work on 220volts so I made my own kind of holiday lighting outside of my CHU / housing unit. The rest of the pictures were pulled from DVIDS from last years Christmas in Iraq. I felt that America needed some Christmas cheer, and a brief reality check, that their are still troops overseas fighting for their freedom.

Just Posted: Our Canon PowerShot G15 review. The G15 is one of the latest wave of updated enthusiast compact cameras and it follows this season’s trend of gaining a brighter lens and CMOS sensor in the process. It still offers a 28-140mm equivalent lens range but its maximum aperture range has been pushed to F1.8-2.8 – a whole stop faster, throughout its range, than the older G12. It’s lost that camera’s flip-out screen but has lost bulk in the process and has retained that rarest of things – an optical viewfinder. Will this makeover of the G-series formula be enough to win back its place at the top of the heap? Read our review to find out.
Lensrentals’ Roger Cicala hasn’t always been a fan of Sigma’s lenses but the company’s latest 35mm F1.4 seems to have got him pretty excited. He’s written a very positive first impressions blog post, considering the build and test data from the first sample he’s received. As usual, he’s very careful to stress the limitations of what he’s reporting – specifically that these are early impressions, based on a single lens that he’s had little chance to actually take photos with. However, he’s also someone with immense experience with lenses, and is in the unusual position of having had the opportunity to strip the lens down, so we found his insight interesting.
