I’m excited to announce today two new books of my photography to be published over the next few months. The first is a new 72 page soft-cover Monograph titled "Mexico: The Light and The Warmth" published by LensWork. The second is titled "Michael Reichmann – a 20 Year Photography Retrospective". It will be available in two editions; a signed limited-edition in a clam-shell style slip-case, and also in an open edition without slip-case.

I am also making an initial announcement today of The Luminous Endowment for Photographers, a not-for-profit entity which will provide scholarships, grants and awards to photographers world-wide.

18 March, 2014 – WPPI Trade Show Report

19 Mar

There has been a lot of announcements by manufacturers in the last few months and a few more to come soon.  The Luminous-Landscape team of Kevin and Chris recently headed to Las Vegas to visit the Trade Show at the WPPI Convention.  They visited a number of manufacturers’ booths and caught up on some of the latest information.  Their report with video interviews of the Trade Show at WPPI is now available.

On Monday March 18th,  X-rite released ColorTRUE a new app that calibrates your portable devices.  It’s very easy to use and is a glimpse into how all our devices will be calibrated to showing the same image accurately no matter what device.  We’ll be reporting more on this app and its uses in the near future.

A funny thing happened on the way to the future – the entire camera industry got blindsided. Camera and lens sales suck, have sucked for a while, and likely will continue to suck for some time to come. The question is – why?

8 March, 2014 – Phase One’s Future

10 Mar

On February 18, 2014 Silverfleet Capital announced their plans to invest in Phase One.  As happens in the photography industry this announcement sent the rumor mills into high gear.  Loyal Phase One customers were worried that Phase One may be following the path of its competitor which is now run by a VC firm.  Talk of changes and layoffs also were making the rounds.  So, we felt what better way to get the right story than to go to the source.  Kevin Raber caught up with Henrik Håkonsson CEO of Phase One, in Las Vegas last week at the WPPI show and had a chat with him on what this new investor means for Phase One.

4 March, 2014 – Fuji X-T1 Further Thoughts

04 Mar

The FujiFilm X-T1 is a handsome mirrorless camera in a small DSLR-like body. It offers a complete array of manual controls. But, this retro-style approach does not always work for my type of photography due to a couple of failings that limit the camera’s usability. Read Michael Reichmann’s Further Thoughts on the X-T1.

28 February, 2013 – Antarctica – A Most Amazing Adventure

01 Mar

Just a little over a month ago the Luminous-Landscape team of Michael Reichmann, Chris Sanderson and Kevin Raber along with William Neill lead a group of 61 photographers to an amazing adventure to Antarctica.  This trip was different than previous trips as the group flew over the Drake Passage.  A savings of close to 5 days at sea was saved by a two hour flight.  You had to be there to experience how wonderful this trip was.  The weather was excellent the group was fantastic and we couldn’t have asked for a better expedition team to lead us on this trip.  Enjoy the next best thing to being there and read Kevin’s trip log and photographs Antarctica 2014 – A Most Amazing Trip.  Plus we have embedded a video of the trip in the article.  Maybe, you’ll want to join our 2015 Antarctica Adventure.  Only a few berths are left on the second trip.

25 February, 2013 – Nobody Knows Anything

25 Feb

A common phrase in the motion picture industry is “Nobody knows anything……", meaning that what it takes to produce a hit movie is not always obvious. The same is true in the camera business when it comes to releasing new cameras. A new article by Michael Reichmann explores who does and who doesn’t get it.
