30 May, 2014 – Panasonic GH4 Video Primer

30 May

The new Panasonic GH4 is to my mind one of the most exciting new cameras to come down the pike in quite a while. While an excellent stills camera, it is the GH4’s video capability that sets it apart. This is the smallest, least expensive camera that can shoot 4K video and record it internally to a memory card. Oh yes – and the image quality is exceptional.

But because of the camera’s capabilities and versatility it can be a bit intimidating. I have therefore written a video primer for the GH4, which I hope will help you not only with a possible buying decision, but also once you get your camera.

28th May, 2014 – Celebrating 15 Years

28 May

May 28, 2015 marks a special date for The Luminous Landscape – 15 years of dedicated and continuous publication.  We’ve come a long way and we have a long way to go.  The last 15 years has seen a remarkable change in photography.  Going from a predominately analog (film) world to digital capture and output.  I know if someone would have told me 20 years ago I would be doing my photography entirely without film, photographic paper, chemistry and darkrooms I would not have believed them. Today we share our Last 15 Years

Photography is in its golden age.  More people are taking photographs every day than ever before and these images are being shared in staggering numbers.  Cameras, computers and output have become easier and better.  The Luminous Landscape will continue to bring you the latest information and articles as well as workshops, video tutorials and much more.  As we look back at the past 15 years we find ourselves even more energized to see where the next 15 years takes all of us.

25 May, 2014 – The Ultimate Mirrorless Camera Strap?

26 May

The passion of photography for many soon turns into an addiction as we look for the latest and greatest gear.  This includes camera bags and now camera straps.  Kevin Raber today reviews The DSPTCH Camera Strap System.  It’s a modular camera strap that works well with the small format cameras mirrorless cameras.  It’s definitely a strap to have but beware it will lead to a new addiction.

Have you checked out the Kimberley Workshop next April.  This is definitely one that should be on your bucket list.

20 May, 2014 – Post Processing Panoramas

21 May

As a follow up to Kevin Raber’s recent article on Having Fun With Panoramas today we present an article by Tom Legrady on Post Processing Panoramas.  This article for the most part focuses on the use go the Adaptive Wide Angle Filter in Photoshop.  The use of this filter especially in panoramas corrects for much of the distortion that is introduced during the stitching.

Michael and I (Kevin) will be in Buffalo June 5-8 as part of the Silo City Workshop.  This workshop conducted by Mark Maio will be photographing one of Michael’s and my favorite things; abandoned buildings.  In this case these will be the abandoned Buffalo Childs Street grain elevators.  If you are free and want to have a great few days shooting these amazing structures inside and out then go to the Silo City Web Page and register today.  There are only a few spots left.  Another bonus is Capture Integration will have a rep there with Leica Gear as well as Medium format digital gear if you are so inclined to try this gear out.  Hope to see you there.

9 May, – Photography As Art, A Lifelong Passion

09 May

All of us are on a journey.  When it comes to our photography we are constantly evolving and growing with our craft and our images that we create grow and evolve with us.  I am in the fortunate  position that I see a lot of photographers work and have watched a number of these photographers evolve their art to incredible levels.  For years I have followed Eleanor Brown and watched her photography evolve. Today, Luminous-Landscape is proud to publish Eleanor’s essay  Photography As Art, A Lifelong Passion.  I hope you enjoy her work and article, make sure to click though to her website as she has a lot of other amazing images.  And, by the way this series of images and why she did them fits i very well with a previous article we recently published; Why Photography Projects Are Important by Alain Briot.
