Written by

This is part 2 of musician Robert Rich discussing the Synth Tech MOTM synth he is using on his current live tour. Additional info about Robert can be found on his web site hrobertrich.com I took the oportunity to record video clips of this evening on my Nikon D300s camera using an AF-S Nikkor 35mm lens. Sound was recorded just using the camera’s built in mic, which while not optimal, yeilded reasonably good results. Thank you for watching and don’t forget to watch part one!

That CS-80 based filter sounds AMAZING. I wonder if it ever will be released in eurorack form.

Thanks, I don’t know much about modular synths as I spend most my time with semi-modular ones, but I was thinking of getting my own rack started.

Hi, thanks for watching! Robert was refering to his Synthesis Technology filter module which is based on a filter design found in the Yamaha CS-80 keyboard. Do a Google search on “MOTM-480” and check out the first link.

It’s kind of hard to hear the speech, what yamaha filter did he say he was using?

HI, I think Robert explains what modules he has in this system in the part 1 video. The two VCOs are the Synth Tech E340 Cloud Generator and the E350 Morphing Terarium. You should check out “Muff Modules” forum, lots of info there on all kinds of modular synthesizers! 🙂

Great discussion and wonderful, promising musical material coming out of that equipment. Very promising for Robert’s coming musical releases.

Yes, you heard and understood correctly! 😉 He has the Synth Tech Euro versions of the Cloud Generator and Morphing Terrarium (E340 and E350) custom mounted on 5U panels. There will be official 5U versions of these available probably be the end of 2010 and they will be even more powerful (have more oscillators/features)!

On this video he use and talk a lot about the terrarium and a bit of the cloud genrator at the end ? Correct me if i’am wrong but due to my low english understanding capacities it’s hard to listen both of these nice sequences and speech.

Hi Martin. He uses Abelton on his laptop. The performance was the night before at a different venue but I didn’t take my camera for that.

Interesting stuff, this synth talk. I understand that he uses his laptop to control two voices on the MOTM rack using MIDI. Do you know what program he uses for that? And was he doing a performance after this?
