The Easiest Way to Achieve Rich Skin Tones in Photoshop!

10 Aug

The post The Easiest Way to Achieve Rich Skin Tones in Photoshop! appeared first on Digital Photography School. It was authored by Caz Nowaczyk.

In this video by PiXimperfect, you’ll learn the easiest way to achieve rich and beautiful skin tones in Photoshop.

?

In this tutorial, advanced Photoshop masking tools are used to target only the skin tones in the image. After selecting the skin tones, adjustment layers are used to add color to it.

The easiest way to achieve rich skin tones in Photoshop:

  1. Open your image in Photoshop.
  2. To begin your selection of the skin, go to Menu->Select->Color Range.
  3. To select the skin correctly, be sure to select “Sample Colors” (not “Skin Tones” because this feature doesn’t capture the skin tones with accuracy).
  4. Firstly, decrease the Fuzziness value to around 15, and then select the first Eyedropper tool. Using the eyedropper tool, click on one part of the skin in your image. To see what your selection is, ensure that you mark Selection in the Color Range window.
  5. Now select the second Eyedropper with the + symbol to extend the selection of the skin range. To do this, click and drag your Eyedropper tool across all skin tones until you have selected them all. Make sure no area is left out.
  6. You don’t want to keep the selection harsh, so go to the Fuzziness Slider and change it to around 55, and then click OK.
  7. Now that you have a selection of your skin tones, or colors similar to your skin tones, click on the Adjustment Layer icon in the Layers Palette. Choose “Solid Color.” This opens up the color palette window. In the RGB section, put in the following numbers – R: 255, G: 46, B: 1, and click OK.
  8. Change the Blend Mode in your Layers Palette from “Normal” to “Linear Light.” Rather than lower the Layer opacity, you are going to lower the “Fill” to around 5-10%.
  9. Take a look at your image and see if any areas have turned out too harsh with the blend. If so, choose your mask, then select the Paintbrush tool and paint those areas (with your brush color set to White) to soften the transition. You can decrease your brush flow if you want to.

That’s it!

Mere fantasy rides for most of us, the world’s most luxurious high-performance supercars take all the elements that make driving a vehicle pleasurable and ramp them up about 10 levels, from advanced surround-sound to wildly powerful engines. A number of opulent luxury automobile creations debuted this August at car shows around the world, including limited editions, custom-painted showcases and other elite motor vehicles accessible only to the rich and famous.

Billed as the world’s first ‘megacar,’ the Koenigsegg Agera RS (with a single, one-of-a-kind ‘XS’ version located in the United States) is set to become one of the most powerful street-legal production cars on American roads and features a lightweight removable hardtop that stows away under the front hood. It features a 5-liter twin turbocharged V8 engine and a CIMA 7-speed paddle-shift transmission and weighs just 3075 pounds.

The 570GT MSO concept by McLaren aims to be the “ultimate sports car experience that’s perfect for daily use, longer journeys and weekends away,” with a rear-opening glass hatch, panoramic roof and leather-trimmed touring deck. Its exhaust system is made from titanium to be 30% lighter than a standard stainless steel system and for a richer tone, with visible heat shields that change color as the system heats and cools. An integrated 12-speaker surround-sound system provides a top-of-the-line aural experience while driving.

A convertible version of the luxury automaker’s 650s is an open-top super car that reaches 62mph in 3 seconds and a top speed of 204 miles per gallon, all while getting 24.2 miles to the gallon. Door blades direct air to the front splitter to enhance cornering grip and balance. The convertible handles and rides just like the coupe version of the 650s, and its retractible hard top and roof mechanism can automatically raise or lower in less than 17 seconds.

The lightest supercar yet to be built weighs in at 2,685 pounds ( a full thousand pounds lighter than the Porsche 918) thanks to its carbon fiber and titanium construction. The $ 2.6 million dollar Pagani Huayra features 789 horsepower and 811 lb-ft of torque with 75 millisecond shifts. A large back wing, front splitter and new body panels update the latest Huayra from previous versions; only 20 will ever be produced.

Aerial Views of Apartheid: Drone Photos Show Rich vs Poor Divides

04 Aug

[ By WebUrbanist in Architecture & Cities & Urbanism. ]

aerial apartheid

Though the apartheid ended decades ago, many physical barriers remain in South Africa, highly visible in the built environment … especially from above.

dividing line

Roads, rivers and strips of open land captured by Cape Town-based photographer Johnny Miller illustrate the divide in a photo series dubbed Unequal Scenes.

rich versus poor

Details give way to patterns in these birds-eye views, highlighting a landscape-scarring history of institutionalized segregation and inequality. Haphazard and densely packed shacks may fall on one side of a line while organized and expansive homes can be seen on the other, often separated by nearly-invisible lines.

“During apartheid, segregation of urban spaces was instituted as policy,” explains Miller, with “buffer zones of empty land, and other barriers were constructed and modified to keep people separate.” Even today, “communities of extreme wealth and privilege will exist just meters from squalid conditions and shack dwellings.”

“My desire with this project is to portray the most Unequal Scenes in South Africa as objectively as possible. By providing a new perspective on an old problem, I hope to provoke a dialogue which can begin to address the issues of inequality and disenfranchisement in a constructive and peaceful way.” Miller has an upcoming show this fall in Johannesburg for those who want to see his work large and up close, to be announced on his social feeds (via Colossal).

Rich Door, Poor Door: Segregated Entrances Spark Controversy

30 Jul

[ By WebUrbanist in Architecture & Houses & Residential. ]

rich door front entrance

Mayor Bill de Blasio and the Department of Housing Preservation and Development has come under attack by critics for approving  building plans in NYC that include separate entrances for affordable-housing tenants and luxury-condo owners. The debate raises other questions about the urban poor and the mixing of classes in this city and beyond.

rich door entrance scandal

40 Riverside Boulevard, an Upper West Side project of the Extell Development Company, is the property at the heart of this particular controversy. Its 55 street-facing units for low-income residents have helped permit its developers to create many of the other 219 additional units to be sold at market rates and take advantage of associated tax breaks. The aggregate effect of the benefits? An estimated $ 100 million in added floor space value for this 33-story tower.

rich door extel example

The now-approved plans call for a back-alley entryway for second-class residents and a more prominent front entrance for its full-priced buyers. Detractors say the separation of entryways defeats the intention of the program, effectively segregating low-income from regular housing. Arguments on the flip side suggest that the city should focus its efforts developing less-valuable land elsewhere for subsidized housing projects.

rich door lobby entrance

The Inclusionary Housing Program to which Extell applied is meant to encourage integrated complexes and, in exchange, allow developers to build larger structures on coveted urban sites. At issue is the notion that this development may follow the letter but not the spirit of the system, which, in theory, should be arbitrated by the HPD, but in practice has become part of a larger public discourse.

rich poor divide interior

The heated and ongoing debate has caused Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer to promise a rejection of any future plans that similarly separate out entrances. Whether that will truly help solve the island’s long-term affordable-neighborhoods issue, though, remains to be seen.
