  • Microsoft PowerPoint 2010 – Animations or Video Displaying Poorly?

    An old graphics card or poorly-implemented driver may be causing display problems for your PowerPoint 2010 presentations. Learn how to switch to software-based rendering for increased compatibility.

    In some situations, a complex Microsoft PowerPoint 2010 presentation with videos, transitions, and animations may display poorly on a computer with an older or non-standard video card. This may be due to the fact that PowerPoint is trying to use the graphics card’s hardware-based acceleration features, but these are not implemented correctly.

    If updating your video card’s drivers (if applicable) does not solve video and animation problems, you may wish to turn hardware acceleration off in PowerPoint. Note that doing so may slow down videos or animations, especially if you have other processes running….

    Die Mehrzahl der Dinge, die uns im Alltag umgeben, ordnen sich ganz ihrer Funktion unter. Wenn sie gebraucht werden, benutzen wir sie, anschließend stellen wir sie ab bis zum nächsten Gebrauch.

    Dabei ist ihre Anordnung im Raum zufällig, wirkt meist chaotisch, da wir keinen Mehrwert aus einer Anordnung ziehen würden. Dinge stehen dort herum, wo wir sie abgelegt haben oder sie beim nächsten Mal brauchen.

    Die Form der Falten auf einem Bett und der zerknüllt getrockneten Spüllappen wird nur durch unsere Bewegungen bestimmt. Oft routiniert, immer gleich und doch jedes Mal anders, weil keine Situation vollkommen gleich ist, in der wir durch unser Leben das Aussehen unserer Alltagsumgebung gestalten.

    Selten passiert es, dass die Form einer solch zufälligen Anordnung figürlich ist, sodass irgendein Teil unseres Gehirns ein Bild erkennt und uns staunen oder lachen lässt. Über eine Regelmäßigkeit im zufälligen Chaos, über plötzlich auftretende Symmetrien oder unmöglich scheinende Anordnungen.

    Jakob Hunosøe wartet nicht auf diese Momente, er schafft sie sich selbst. In seiner aktuellen Fotoserie “On Things Ordinary” arrangiert er Situationen, die zu sonderbar oder regelmäßig sind, um aus unserem zufälligen Umgang mit unserer Umgebung hervorgegangen zu sein.

    In einem aufgeräumten, klaren, fast dokumentarischen Stil hält er Symmetrien, angeordnete Objekte, schwebende Gegenstände und ungewöhnlich Geformtes fest, das er vorzugsweise in Bädern, Küchen und der eigenen Wohnung findet.

    Ich bewundere, wie Jakob es schafft, sich mit alltäglichen Gegenständen, die uns normalerweise so vertraut sind, dass wir sie im Grunde nicht mehr richtig wahrnehmen, fast übersehen, nie genau anschauen, so zu beschäftigen, dass verblüffende Momentaufnahmen entstehen.

    Dazu schafft er einen Kontrast zwischen Minimalismus und Komplexität, denn obwohl die meisten seiner Kompositionen mit einem Blick zu erfassen sind und nur wenige Objekte involvieren, kann man sehr lange auf seinen Arbeiten herumwandern und trotzdem weitere überraschende Details entdecken.

    Eine Einladung an jeden von Tatendrang erfüllten, oft aber ideenlosen Fotografen, der wie ich schon vor Jahren die eigene Wohnung mangels potentiell interessanter Motive gedanklich abgehakt hat. Zeit für eine Neuentdeckung der eigenen vier Wände.

    Jakob Hunosøe wurde 1975 in Dänemark geboren, heute lebt und arbeitet er in Kopenhagen. Seit seinem Abschluss 2004 an der Königlich Dänischen Kunstakademie kann er auf eine beachtliche Anzahl an Ausstellungen und Auszeichnungen zurückblicken.

    Seine Arbeiten beschäftigen sich nicht nur in dieser Serie mit den alltäglichen Gegenständen und dem Raum um uns herum. Er benutzt die Fotografie als neutrales Abbildungsmittel, um damit die Grenzen des Absurden, Humorvollen und Surrealen auszuloten.

  • JVC launches GC-PX10 hybrid 12MP stills/1080p video camera in US

    JVC has announced the GC-PX10, a 12 megapixel/1080p60 hybrid stills/video camera with 10x optical zoom. The model, which combines a 1/2.3" back-illuminated CMOS sensor can shoot 1080p60 video at bitrates of up to 36Mbps, full-resolution images at 30fps or 8.3MB images at 60fps. The camera, which appears to be a US version of the previously-announced, Japan-only GC-PX1, can also capture slow-motion video at 300fps. It includes 32GB of built-in memory, as well as accepting SDXC, SDHC and SD cards.

  • Little Feat – Manchester 1976 – Dixie Chicken

    Little Feat Manchester Palace 1976. [06-Feb-1976] . This is the third set of slides from this show. Maybe I have enough material for one more?? … I found some old 35mm slides collecting dust in a box in my attic. Spent some time carefully restoring/enhancing them, and I uploaded them here for your entertainment, and in the process learning how to use Sony Vegas! My retouching/photoshop skills are improving! I prepare the originals on a calibrated monitor, but they look a little too light on this non-calibrated display. You may need to adjust your brightness to see ’em at their best. Got some fairly decent close ups of Lowell George and Paul Barrere. The music ( I try to get as near date-wise to the original show as I can) is from Little Feat Orpheum Theatre Boston Ma USA 31 Oct 1975. Enjoy!

  • One More Thing… Thank You & RIP Steve Jobs

    Back in 1983/4 my friend showed me his Apple IIe and I was blown away. In 1986 I was super stoked to get a Macintosh Plus. No more hand written reports or worse using a type writer and relying on Wite-out to correct my bad typing. The world thanks to Steve Jobs and Apple is very different now.

    I have been an Apple fan as long as I’ve used computers and I’m unashamed to admit I’ve purchased a vast majority of their computers and mobile devices. When the Macintosh II came out, Apple’s first color computer, I knew the world of digital imaging would be in my future. I didn’t now how exactly, but I knew it would happen. Photoshop did not exist in September 1988 when I paid over $ 5000 for the Mac II, but as I saw software develop in the months and years after that enabled the editing of photos I was enthralled. Sadly scanners were equally expensive back then, but I relied on scanning my photos using an HP scanner in my college computer lab. It took ~15 minutes to scan a 4×6 print at a resolution of 1600×1200 (a giant file at the time) and to share it I had to use dial up at home or bike to campus to use the earliest form of the Internet. It was a super exciting time. It was so obvious things were changing in radical ways. I had no idea how it would turn out exactly, but Steve seemed to have a master vision that kept Apple users on their toes waiting for the next development.

    Since that time so much has changed. Steve Jobs without any doubt has influenced my life laying the groundwork for my interests and career aspirations. Would I have been able to do the things I’ve done to date with out Apple or Steve Jobs… likely, but not with as much passion. Steve Jobs kept me on my toes always thinking about the next big evolution in computing, content creation and publishing channels.

    I never met Steve Jobs, but I came close while at the 2008 MacWorld Expo. It was the year following the release of the iPhone and he was on the convention floor at the Apple booth. He was busy catching up on email on his iPhone. I never had any interest in interrupting him, but I did want to get a “I saw Steve Jobs! photo”. I had my dSLR with me which stuck out like a sore thumb and every time I raised it to take his photo one of his handlers would casually move between us blocking my view. I had to eventually shoot from my hip as I walked by to get his photo. I suppose it added to the adventure of it all.

    I will certainly miss Steve Jobs not because I ever knew him, but because of how he made me think about the next big thing with each big announcement. The computers and gadgets were a means to an end… self publishing, photo editing, podcasting, webcasting/video conferencing, app development and so on. I will also miss hearing his catch phrase delivered only as he could say it:

    One More Thing…

    One final note, if you have yet to see this then I highly recommend setting some time aside to watch Steve’s Stanford commencement speech from 2005

  • ABC NASCAR Commercial Shot in Amesbury MA – Still Photography by Virginia Page

    From virginiapagephoto.com – The talent, make-up and yours truly arrived around 4 at The Carriage Mill Building downtown Amesbury and began immediately getting ready. The talent headed towards wardrobe and make-up while I began to shoot as the crew created the set and perfected lighting. The filming began around 5:30pm and stopped just after 11:00pm. During the shoot it was my job to capture the crew & cast in a photojournalistic style from various angles while they were working on set.
